Ismael Leyva Architects celebrates anniversary.


Ismael Leyva Architects, PC will celebrate its 10th anniversary in December, 2006. The firm, established in 1996 and led by Ismael Leyva, AIA AIA - Application Integration Architecture , has proven to be one of New York's most well respected architectural firms.

Ismael Leyva's trademark designs, such as the Residences at Time Warner Center The Time Warner Center is a mixed-use skyscraper developed by The Related Companies in New York City. Its design, by David Childs and Mustafa Kemal Abadan of Skidmore, Owings & Merrill, consists of two 229 m (750 ft) towers bridged by a multi-story atrium containing upscale retail  along with Place 57 the new condominium tower at 207 East 57th Street, 60 Spring Street, 15 Broad Street, The Beacon, 50 Gramercy Park Gramercy Park (sometimes misspelled as Grammercy) is a small, fenced-in private park in the Gramercy neighborhood of Manhattan, New York City, New York State[1].  North, the River Lofts Condominium and Oro 306 on Gold Street in Brooklyn have universally been noted to create a cohesive interior-exterior, providing maximum spatial layouts while often capturing great views and vistas from each residence. Recently, his design for the new residential building at 85 Flatbush Avenue Extension in Brooklyn has been widely acclaimed.

In the past decade, Leyva's firm has grown from a small rented corner office to a successful business with over 100 professionals, led by Leyva's vision and creative team of talented professionals, designing a range of developments from luxury condominiums to affordable housing. Residential conversions and new development has been coupled with Ismael Leyva's commercial/industrial design, which also brought new design concepts to the development of Moynihan Station in Midtown Manhattan.

Leyva has also worked in association with such luminaries as Charles Gwathmey, Frank Gehry, Philip Starck, David M. Childs, David Rockwell and Robert A.M. Stern on several projects.

Leyva earned his BA in architecture from the University of Veracruz and landed his first job designing a luxury resort in Acapulco, Mexico in 1975.

When Leyva moved to the United States, he quickly learned the harsh reality that his Mexican architecture license wasn't accepted and he had to go back to being a draftsman and working three more years to take a new licensing test.

His early career began at Philip Birnbaum and Associates, where he worked for 15 years.
