KLAMATH FALLS, Ore.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 26, 2003

With gas at an all time high, it's a good time to explore a vacation closer to home, like touring the nationally recognized Volcanic Legacy Scenic Byway The Volcanic Legacy Scenic Byway is an All-American Road in the U.S. states of California and Oregon. It is roughly 500 miles (800 km) long and travels through the Cascade Range past numerous volcanoes.  All American Road in Northern California and Southern Oregon.

The route, one of only 29 All American Roads in the United States, includes Crater Lake, but it starts with the geothermal features of Lassen National Monument. Mount Shasta will put you in a trance, as you gaze up to this 14,162-foot high active volcanic mountain.

Next stop will be the grasslands of Butte Butte, city, United States

Visiting the nearby wildlife refuge areas will put you in the middle of the world famous Pacific Flyway flyway: see migration of animals.  and the Klamath Basin. This is the home to the largest concentration of wintering bald eagles in the lower 48 states.

In the distance you can see Klamath Lake, the largest natural freshwater lake west of the Rocky Mountains. As you are driving you will skirt this amazing lake, showing you bar none views of land and wildlife. The Winema National Forest hosts many campgrounds that will put your stress to rest and your family to delight.

Canoe access at Rocky Point on Pelican Bay will let you explore the Upper Klamath Wildlife Refuge. Fort Klamath offers a unique night's stay at one of the local innkeepers, and recreational opportunities such as hiking or biking at the Wood River Wetlands.
