When people think of Irish culture Hinsman says, "A lot of people think about leprechauns and drinking beer. We try to get a lot deeper than that." Carthy will help the committee fulfill both parts of its mission, performing during the evening concert and giving three daytime workshops. You can participate in family activities at any time during the day, including making a book about Irish fairies, planting shamrock seeds or drawing Celtic knots. Or you can attend one of the many scheduled workshops. Hinsman urges participants to bring their instruments if they plan on attending any of the workshops and demonstrations on Irish music. The seven-member coordinating committee decided to make the event more affordable to seniors and students this year, so instead of a child price, there is one reduced ticket price for students and seniors with appropriate identification. The format of the dinner is also slightly different this year. Daytime activities will wrap up between 5 p.m. and 5:30 p.m., but dinner will be served until 6:45 p.m. Pat Kloch and Rose Burnette have worked hard to ensure there will be enough of Bubba's Irish Cuisine Irish cuisine can be divided into two main categories – traditional, mainly simple dishes, and more modern dishes, as served in restaurants and hotels. One, because the event is all day, they want to have it on a day when most people can come. Next year, St. Patrick's Day falls on a Saturday, so the committee is considering having the festival then. The other reason is Irish performers are in higher demand on the holiday, so the committee can stretch its budget further by having its event at an earlier date. The day of the year doesn't matter so much to the committee as the content of its festival. "We want people to realize how colorful and interesting and engaging Irish culture is," Hinsman says.
