Irish Revenue Commissioners Select CA's OpenIngres To Help Deliver Integrated Taxation Processing Throughout Ireland.

ISLANDIA, N.Y.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--February 27, 1997--Computer Associates International, Inc. (CA) today announced the signing of a major long-term agreement with the Revenue Commissioners of Dublin, Ireland for CA's flagship relational database environment, OpenIngres. One of the largest relational DBMS deals in Ireland, the agreement positions CA as a key partner in the delivery of the Revenue Commissioners' strategic business solutions.

The Revenue Commissioners, who are responsible for both The Inland Revenue and Customs & Excise functions in the Republic of Ireland, and the collection of over #14 billion per annum (approximately $2.4 billion U.S.) are well advanced on a program to deliver a more integrated approach to tax administration. The multi-faceted, long-term program addresses corporate strategy, business processes, people, and technology.

The final phase of the program - Integrated Taxation Processing - replaces a number of mainframe-based systems and will provide a common system for handling tax returns and payments, including tax assessment, accounting and main collection activities for all major taxes. The Revenue Commissioners chose OpenIngres and CA-OpenROAD as the underlying technology for the delivery of this system. The selection followed an open invitation to tender in European Journal, and an extensive evaluation of leading database solutions.

Traditionally, taxation authorities in Ireland have dealt with their customers on a separate tax-by-tax basis. This involves a transformation from separately dealing with taxpayers for individual taxes, to a cross-tax customer-oriented focus. The integrated approach has proved to be the fastest and most effective way to deliver better customer service, new functions, improved compliance, and improved Exchequer yield.
