THE age of innocence is gone, replaced by a society battered by destruction, violence and confusion.

As Ireland changes beyond all recognition, so too does the manner in which our children cope with their anxieties.

Being forced to grow up quicker than ever before by exposure to a world gone mad, Ireland's youth are resorting to desperate measures.

Not surprisingly some are finding the answers in the bottom of a bottle.

Many have entered a spiral of self destruction and self-harm, experimenting with drink before they have even left primary school.

As years go by, the extent of the boozing worsens - in short, we are drinking ourselves to an early grave.

The cruel reality is by the time they have reached 15, most Irish kids will have been drunk at least once.

But for some, the frequency is much more regular. At a time when drug abuse has rightly been pushed to the forefront, society is losing sight of the problem of alcohol abuse.

Nobody seems to have the answers but make no mistake we are sitting on a time bomb just waiting to explode.
