But its sound has not always been so adventuresome, often favoring a discreetly distant and subdued image. Not so here. Instead, the music is relatively conservative and the sound is daring. As per the title, the music reflects the Ireland of Romance; no famines or rebellion here but a series of tone poems celebrating the misty isle of dreams and yesteryears, of green banks and flowing rivers. And as much of the charm and delight of the album must be attributed to Marco Polo's sonics, now recorded closer than I've heard them before from this source and sounding big, rich, sonorous sonorous resonant; sounding. , yet remarkably transparent.
