has to offer building product companies from Ireland. Enterprise Ireland is a governmental group with satellite offices worldwide, which is dedicated to building world-class Irish businesses and expanding growth opportunities for them abroad.

This latest business initiative builds on the launch earlier this year of the Business Development Group that provides focused networking for IABS's 300+ members. Networking meetings are arranged so that members can meet according to specialty, in a one-on-one format.

Paying tribute to the success of the Irish American building community has always been a powerful contribution of the association and this year it succeeded on two levels. Its Leadership Awards, given in the fall, recognize innovative thinking and practices in both construction and real estate, and acknowledge those who have made a positive difference in the City and the State, particularly in the area of environmental responsibility.

This year's honoree, Michael C. Finnegan, the Managing Director and Head of Regions in the Public Finance Department of J.P. Morgan Securities, is a specialist in Environmental Finance and counts among his most notable accomplishments the brokering of the New York Watershed Agreement, which safeguards the City's water while protecting the rights of watershed property owners.

The IABS Annual Awards of Honor recognize those whose contributions have placed them within the highest ranks of their classically New York professions. Yet the impact of their work has extended far beyond our city to encompass our nation and the globe, while honoring the Irish American community and the culture of their heritage. Excellence is a tradition; former award winners have included a Nobel laureate, the former President of Ireland The President of Ireland (Irish: Uachtarán na hÉireann) [uːəxt̪ˠəɾaːn̪ˠ n̪ˠə heːɼən̪ˠ] is the head of state of the Republic of Ireland.  and leading executives and entrepreneurs.

"Whether we are honoring a giant of our industry to serve as a role model for our members, or creating new business opportunities here and abroad," said McCabe, "the IABS is dedicated to giving back--to our members, to our profession and to the city that has allowed the Irish Americans to rise from the humblest of ranks to the highest levels of accomplishment in multiple professions.

"With that as our inspiration, we look forward to opening new doors not only in New York, but on the other side of the Atlantic as well."
