Iridian Technologies Announces Improved Iris Recognition Algorithm; Latest revision delivers enhanced accuracy, speed, and user convenience.

MOORESTOWN, N.J. -- Iridian Technologies today announced the availability of a new version of its iris recognition Iris recognition is a method of biometric authentication that uses pattern recognition techniques based on high-resolution images of the irides of an individual's eyes. Not to be confused with another less prevalent ocular-based technology, retina scanning, iris recognition uses  algorithm designed Algorithm design is a specific method to create a mathematical process in solving problems. Applied algorithm design is Algorithm engineering.

Algorithm design is identified and incorporated into many solution theories of operation research, such as dynamic
to deliver enhanced accuracy, faster recognition speeds, and increased convenience for end users. The algorithm further solidifies Iridian's position as the leading provider of the most accurate, convenient, and non-invasive biometric technology. This is the fourth generation of Iridian's algorithms and exemplifies Iridian's leadership in continually improving iris recognition technology as it is rapidly adopted by the market on a global basis.

The new algorithm, codenamed '2Pi-06', will improve the already outstanding image capture performance of Iridian's software in Proof Positive(R) iris recognition cameras. It will deliver improved 'false reject' performance by reducing the instances where someone who is enrolled in a database is not recognized. In addition, 2Pi-06 sets the stage for the next generation of iris recognition cameras, particularly those that are chip-based and mobile devices, and those that capture pictures of an iris from subjects at a distance and/or in motion. It also prepares for the ability to recognize people from non-ideal iris images.

The new algorithm will be available through Iridian's latest software architecture, OpenIris(R). OpenIris is a highly-flexible, modular architecture that simplifies application development for large-scale enrollment and authentication (1) Verifying the integrity of a transmitted message. See message integrity, e-mail authentication and MAC.

(2) Verifying the identity of a user logging into a network.
of national populations. With its ability to deliver parallel database searching, the OpenIris architecture can be configured to search a national population and return a result in less than two seconds. The new algorithm and OpenIris-based solutions are available only through Iridian authorized resellers and partners.

Dr. Ulf Cahn von Seelen, Iridian's Chief Scientist, explained "With this improved algorithm, even images of marginal quality can now be used successfully for authentication. We have preserved the advantages of our current core software while setting the stage for next-generation performance."

While delivering the new benefits outlined above, the new software will:

--Maintain Iridian's outstanding false match rate, which is the probability of mistakenly recognizing an individual as someone else. Currently the false match rate stands at 1 in 1.2 million using one eye and can be as low as 1 in 1.44 trillion using two eyes. This accuracy has been proven in independent laboratories in the US and the UK, and more importantly in large-scale real-world deployments such as the UAE (Uninterruptible Application Error) The name given to a crash in Windows 3.0. In subsequent versions of Windows, a crash was called a "General Protection Fault," "Application Error" or "Illegal Operation." See crash in Windows and abend.  Expellee ex·pel·lee

"Iridian continues to build its competitive advantages in the iris recognition market" said Frank Fitzsimmons Frank Fitzsimmons (August 7, 1907 – May 6, 1981), was President of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters from Jimmy Hoffa's conditional pardon in 1971 until his own death from cancer in 1981. , President and CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. "We have over two dozen patents, numerous reference customers with large-scale deployments, proven and scalable software, and interoperable cameras from high quality partners such as IrisGuard, Oki, and Panasonic. With this new algorithm, we raise the bar yet again and we set the stage for future improvements."

About Iridian Technologies

Iridian Technologies, Inc. of Moorestown, NJ develops and commercializes software for iris recognition - renowned as the most accurate deployable biometric identifier. The holder of over two dozen US and international patents behind iris recognition technologies, Iridian offers unparalleled security and scalability for public-use applications such as simplified passenger travel, border control, national IDs, and election verification as well as restricted access and information access.

Iridian has experienced accelerating adoption of its technology over the past two years with installations in the Canadian CANPASS CANPASS Canadian Pass (document allowing entry into Canada at remote locales)  program, the US/Canada NEXUS Air program, the U.S. Registered Traveler The Registered Traveler Pilot Program is an airline passenger security assessment system that was tested in the United States air travel industry in 2005. Iridian's iris recognition software and applications are designed to meet the authentication needs for large-scale, country-wide applications. Iridian's OpenIris software allows applications to scale by adding software components using web server technology. This unique architecture enables national population searches in real time. Iridian's revolutionary PrivateID(R) technology simplifies application development by offering standard data packet formats, common communication protocols, and standard APIs across an extensive camera portfolio. Iridian has also implemented its Proof Positive certification program to ensure that applications and hardware built on Iridian technology meet Iridian's performance, interoperability, and safety guidelines.
