MOORESTOWN, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 31, 2003

Iridian Technologies, Inc., the world leader in authentication (1) Verifying the integrity of a transmitted message. See message integrity, e-mail authentication and MAC.

(2) Verifying the identity of a user logging into a network.
technologies based on iris recognition Iris recognition is a method of biometric authentication that uses pattern recognition techniques based on high-resolution images of the irides of an individual's eyes. Not to be confused with another less prevalent ocular-based technology, retina scanning, iris recognition uses , today announced availability of the BioAPI BSP BSP

v1.1, the first iris recognition software product compatible with the industry standard BioAPI specification for a standardized Application Programming Interface (API) for biometric applications.

The BioAPI specification provides a standard access method to biometric functions and devices. The benefits of Iridian's BioAPI BSP include rapid development of biometric applications, flexible deployment, and enhanced implementation of multiple biometric applications.

This initial biometric service provider (BSP) module from Iridian supports image capture, enrollment and verification. Future versions will also support identification. The Iridian BSP is compatible with all Proof Positive(TM) certified iris cameras.

With Iridian's BioAPI BSP, developers will have immediate "plug and play" compatibility with BioAPI-compliant applications, such as SAFlink's SAFsolutions for Workstations, a middleware product that supports secure biometric logon See login.

2. (networking) logon - In ACF/VTAM, an unformatted session-initiation request for a session between two logical units.
. Other application software providers have released or are developing compliant software products for a variety of applications.

"The BioAPI specification is making biometrics a mainstream technology, rather than a mere curiosity, in today's security industry," said Dr. James Cambier, Vice President of Research for Iridian Technologies.

The BioAPI specification has been approved as ANSI/INCITS Standard 358-2002 and was the winner of the CTST CTST CardTech SecurTech
