Iraq resolution is against troop increase, for internationalism.

The media have widely reported that Congress is considering a non-binding resolution A non-binding resolution is a written motion adopted by a deliberative body that cannot progress into a law. The substance of the resolution can be anything that can normally be proposed as a motion.  opposing the president's plan to send an additional 21,500 American soldiers to Iraq. In the words of the resolution, as reported to the Senate by the Foreign Relations Foreign relations may refer to:
  • Diplomacy, the art and practice of conducting negotiations between representatives of groups or nations
  • Foreign policy, a set of political goals that seeks to outline how a particular country will interact with other countries of the
Committee on January 24: "It is not in the national interest of the United States United States, officially United States of America, republic (2005 est. pop. 295,734,000), 3,539,227 sq mi (9,166,598 sq km), North America. The United States is the world's third largest country in population and the fourth largest country in area.  to deepen its military involvement in Iraq, particularly by increasing the United States military force presence in Iraq."

However, the media have largely ignored the fact that the same resolution--Senate Concurrent Resolution An action of Congress passed in the form of an enactment of one house, with the other house in agreement, which expresses the ideas of Congress on a particular subject.  2--calls for greater regional and international involvement in Iraq.  the resolution, "greater concerted regional and international support would assist the Iraqis in achieving a political solution and national reconciliation," and "the United States should engage nations in the Middle East to develop a regional, internationally sponsored peace and reconciliation process for Iraq."

This language suggests that the resolution's supporters are not so much against intervening in Iraq as they are against unilateral intervention. This is not surprising since liberal Democrats, like neoconservative ne·o·con·ser·va·tism also ne·o-con·ser·va·tism

The resolution, sponsored by Democrat Joseph Biden (Del.), had 17 cosponsors in the Senate as of January 25, including Republican Chuck Hagel (Neb.).
