Prior to the new policy taking effect, many believed it would overcome the doubtful and objectionable features of the New York Standard Policy, but following its release, its success was questionable.

Changes ranged from minor to radical, leaving many opportunities for legal attack,

"The New York standard policy has been severely criticized as unfair to the assured in many respects," Best's Review commented. "But it remains to be seen whether the Iowa Legislature's cure is worse than the disease."
