Iowa Cold Storage Goes Live at New Des Moines-Area Facility with Delfour 3PL Platform and EDI Solution.

Iowa Cold Storage, Inc. has commenced operations in a newly constructed temperature-controlled warehouse in the Des Moines suburb of Altoona using Delfour Corporation's advanced SmartEnterprise2 supply chain execution software, it was announced jointly today by General Manager Jamey Franzen and Delfour President Joe E. Couto. The solution also includes electronic data interchange (EDI) translation and connectivity software that enables instantaneous computer-to-computer exchange of documents between the company and its customers.

The state-of-the-art 100,000 square-foot freezer-refrigerator facility is located at the "crossroads of the nation," near the junction of Interstate 80 and Interstate 35, Franzen noted.

It is optimally designed to receive, store, retrieve and ship a wide range of food products with a concentration on beef, pork and poultry.

Currently, several truckloads of fresh meat per day arrive at the warehouse, where it is packaged to customer specifications, flash-frozen at -35 degrees and held in freezer storage at -15 degrees until shipping orders are received. The company provides a variety of fulfillment services to its customers, among them blast freezing and defrosting as well as strap boxing, taped boxing and vacuum-sealed boxing. The Delfour suite provides management, tracking and visibility resources at each phase of the activity.

According to Couto, the total solution is hosted at Delfour's Markham data center during the initial months of the new operation.
