The new Zip(R) 250MB USB drive is compatible with computers running Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows NT (Windows New Technology) A 32-bit operating system from Microsoft for Intel x86 CPUs. NT is the core technology in Windows 2000 and Windows XP (see Windows). Available in separate client and server versions, it includes built-in networking and preemptive multitasking.  4.0, or MacOs 8.1 or above. The new Zip(R) 250MB USB drive is easy to attach and install to computers and laptops, and also provides hot "plug and play" (except when running Windows NT 4.0).

The cable which allows the Zip(R) 250MB USB drive to be connected via a PCMCIA (Personal Computer Memory Card International Association, San Jose, CA, www.pcmcia.org) An international standards body and trade association that was founded in 1989 to establish a standard for connecting peripherals to portable computers. The estimated street price of the Zip(R) 250MB USB drive is expected to be $179.95 (U.S.), with Zip(R) 250MB disks available at an estimated street price of $16.65 (U.S.) each, when purchased in a six-pack. The PCMCIA cable, which is sold separately, is expected to be available in Q4 1999 for an estimated street price of $39.95 (U.S.). The Zip(R) 250MB USB drive includes one Zip(R) 250MB disk, a USB cable power supply, a USB guideline sheet and a USB "Quick Start" guide. Also included with the drive is Iomega's software suite with the following:
