Investment firm goes with the flow.

MKDA has helped XE Capital, an asset management and capital markets firm, stand apart from traditional investment firms with an edgy 5,000 s/f build out on the second-floor at 24 West 40th Street. MKDA designed 5,000 s/f for XE on the third floor of the same building just one year prior.

According to Michael Kleinberg, president of MKDA--a space planning and interior architecture firm servicing landlords, brokers and businesses throughout the New York tri-state area--XE originally wanted a design that excluded straight lines in order to reinforce the company's fresh brand and fluid approach to new ideas directly into its work environment.

To accommodate the unique request, MKDA used color and sculptures of folding surfaces and planes to define and divide the trading area, work area, conference rooms, cafe and restrooms. To balance out the linear lighting fixtures and create a sense of depth, MKDA created a "floating" ceiling with dropped incandescent pendants.

Conference rooms were outfitted with patterned glass and sliding bifold glass doors, which could be used to further divide space.

MKDA also created a rock garden on the second floor and an interior staircase, which replaced some of MKDA's original, award-winning designs.
