Invention Contest Teams Top Product Catalog with Popular Invention Website; Hammacher Schlemmer and PatentCafe.com Announce Nationwide ``Search For Invention''.

Business Editors

SACRAMENTO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 3, 2001

Hammacher Schlemmer, known to shoppers for the last 153 years as the retail Mecca for top-of-the-line consumer products, and PatentCafe.com, the world's largest invention and innovation resource, are joining forces for a popular annual event.

The collaboration is part of Hammacher Schlemmer's "Search For Invention" contest to find the next great invention and to offer a unique opportunity to bring new products to market. For the past eight years, Hammacher Schlemmer has encouraged innovation by sponsoring the national contest to recognize outstanding patented consumer products that have not yet reached the market.

This year, PatentCafe.com has set up online access to the contest details and submission form, making it easy for inventors to submit their inventions to Hammacher Schlemmer. PatentCafe.com is making considerable progress in its quest to help inventors commercialize their ideas by assisting in the invention screening and guiding inventors in the preparation of a professional presentation. This unique recruiting partnership is expected to attract a wider field of contest entrants than in years past, and in doing so, raise the quality of submissions.

The deadline for invention submissions is May 29, 2001, with the final judging and announcement of the winners taking place in September at Hammacher Schlemmer's flagship store in New York City New York City: see New York, city.
