Invensys Power Systems--Secure Power Protects AT&T Enhanced Network Services.

Business Editors/High Tech Writers

RALEIGH, N.C.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 2, 2000

Invensys Secure Power, part of the $2.5 billion Invensys Power Systems Division, has been awarded a $38 Million contract from AT&T Enhanced Network Services An umbrella term for advanced communications services. Until the mid-1990s, everybody knew what "enhanced services" meant. They were voicemail, "one number follow me," prepaid calling card or voice-actuated call control, all offered by a carrier or service provider in a circuit-switched  (AENS AENS Automated Emergency Notification System ) to supply 750kVA Powerware(R) uninterruptible power systems Uninterruptible power system

The United States is the world's third largest country in population and the fourth largest country in area.  7x24x365.

Over the next year, 96 Powerware(R) 9315-750kVA units will be installed to provide new levels of reliability to five AT&T Enhanced Network Services sites, protecting over 272,000 square feet of facility space. Secure Power will provide AT&T with an integrated solution including UPSs, switchgear The term switchgear, used in association with the electric power system, or grid, refers to the combination of electrical disconnects, fuses and/or circuit breakers used to isolate electrical equipment. , batteries and support services--delivering a single source for every power protection element needed to enhance the high-availability needs at these sites.

"This business win and the exponential growth Extremely fast growth. On a chart, the line curves up rather than being straight. Contrast with linear.  we are experiencing in our three-phase division clearly reflects the industry growth of ISP and collocation resources," said John F. Paul, President, Invensys Secure Power. "The contract with AT&T underpins our preeminent position as the leader in three-phase protection and our strategic intent to provide systems across the AC power train."

Inherent to the Powerware 9315-750kVA units is the patented Powerware(R) Hot Sync(TM) wireless technology, providing units that are paralleled for redundancy as well as capacity at each of the AT&T sites. Powerware Hot Sync enables two or more UPS modules to work in tandem Adv. 1. in tandem - one behind the other; "ride tandem on a bicycle built for two"; "riding horses down the path in tandem"

without a bundle of wires connecting the units. This wireless design means that the units are in sync, yet they are functioning independently of each other. If one module fails, the other picks up the load immediately protecting the network from downtime. N+2 redundancy gives an added string of reliability further eliminating single-points-of-failure found in other paralleled redundant systems used in the industry.

The Powerware units were approved by consulting engineers at Highland Engineering. Both price and manufacturing responsiveness were key in solidifying the contract. The first phase of installations will begin in June 2000.
