SUPERCOMM 2001

ATLANTA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 5, 2001

New breed of DataTrax products provides proactive

management of even the smallest remote sites,

greatly enhancing network availability

Invensys Energy Systems, a global leader in power solutions for the telecom and IT markets, will debut DataTrax T-Module, the next generation monitoring device for critical communications networks The transmission channels interconnecting all client and server stations as well as all supporting hardware and software. .

DataTrax T-Module was specifically designed to provide small-site remote monitoring (protocol) remote monitoring - (RMON) A network management protocol that allows network information to be gathered at a single computer. Whereas SNMP gathers network data from a single type of Management Information Base (MIB), RMON 1 defines nine additional MIBs that provide a  for its powerful Foreseer(TM) Management Software, addressing the needs of service provider remote network operations.

T-Module users have the ability to proactively manage power, environmental, safety and security and other systems in wireless base stations, repeater (1) A communications device that amplifies (analog) or regenerates (digital) the data signal in order to extend the transmission distance. Available for both electronic and optical signals, repeaters are used extensively in long distance transmission.  and POP sites, remote data center nodes, and other telecommunications sites from a central operations Central Operations (CO) is a major command of the London Metropolitan Police that provides operational support to the rest of the service. "Telcos and ISPs deploy hundreds of small, remote communication sites. Often their revenue stream and competitive position is affected by their ability to maintain continuous, non-stop operations of these sites. Successful and profitable service providers recognize that network availability and low cost of operations are key elements for long-term growth and financial performance," said Doug Milner, president, Invensys Energy Systems. "T-Module is a powerful tool that allows network operators to proactively manage the remote and often unmanned sites, allowing for more efficient management of their networks while providing a higher level of reliability demanded by wireless applications," concluded Milner.

or dial up modem. From the OC, up to 3,000 sites can be managed from a single Foreseer system. T-Module accepts digital inputs from equipment such as DC rectifiers, UPS, air conditioners, generators, and security systems; and also supports analog inputs Refers to hardware interfaces that accept non-digital signals. For decades, all the plugs and sockets on traditional audio and video equipment connected analog lines (see illustration below).  for readings, such as temperature and humidity. All digital and analog inputs are continually scanned and compared to pre-set alarm limits. T-Module supports remote alarm notification via pager, cell phone, and PDA (Personal Digital Assistant) A handheld computer for managing contacts, appointments and tasks. It typically includes a name and address database, calendar, to-do list and note taker, which are the functions in a personal information manager (see PIM).  (Palm Pilot), and can predict adverse trends in power, environmental and security systems. Key Features/Benefits:

--First complete infrastructure monitoring system specifically designed to deliver real time, enterprise-level monitoring and control for hundreds of small, remote sites - simultaneously.

--Powerful GUI (Graphical User Interface) A graphics-based user interface that incorporates movable windows, icons and a mouse. The ability to resize application windows and change style and size of fonts are the significant advantages of a GUI vs. a character-based interface.  - delivers the ability to easily "see" each site on the network, including the ability to click through and drill down to the individual site to manage alarm events, provide access and execute output control commands.

--Trend analysis/fault analysis - historical data of the power and environmental conditions is stored for up to 72 hours providing operational and cause/effect analysis. This analytical tool will help identify adverse conditions that could cause network downtime if left unattended.

--Client/Server Architecture - up to 3,000 sites can be monitored from a single system. As networks grow, new sites can be added without changing the base system, providing a flexible and scalable solution that grows with your network.

--Alarm Notification - system failures, adverse performance trends and routine maintenance alerts are monitored and processed. Automatic escalation and notification of urgent alarms is conducted via email, pager, mobile phone and PDA (Palm Pilot).

--Cost Effective - proactive management of remote sites delivers higher network availability. Real time operating data can be accessed anywhere from a standard web browser The program that serves as your front end to the Web on the Internet. In order to view a site, you type its address (URL) into the browser's Location field; for example, www.computerlanguage.com, and the home page of that site is downloaded to you. , wireless PDA and web-enabled mobile phones, often preventing unnecessary service visits.
