Invasion of the Data Snatchers

Data security and integrity are key issues on today's computing environment. In Invasion of the Data Snatchers viewers follow "Data Cop Rick Tracker" in his investigation of a virus infecting a fictitious multinational corporation.

In this entertaining, superhero, comicbook format the tape leads viewers through five cases involving data security lapses. Viewers learn

* how to protect systems from computer viruses.

* how easily unauthorized people gain access to sensitive files and sell the information to competitors,

* how an unprotected password helps make a diversion possible.

* how a fired employee gets even by planting a virus, and

* how carelessness and thoughtless handling of diskettes can destroy valuable information.

Each case shows a particular hazard and points out important rules for keeping computer data and systems safe. Some of the tips offered by the superhero are the following:

* Don't accept software from strangers.

* Don't input software from network bulleting boards.

* Don't share diskettes with outsiders.

* Don't acquire or use illegal duplicates of software.

* Don't allow unauthorized use of office systems.

* If you spot a virus, notify designated personnel immediately.

This unusual educational approach -- video and accompanying comic book -- promises to keep computer users entertained while they learn.
