(Nasdaq:INTZ), a leading provider of intrusion detection See IDS and IPS.  solutions for the information-driven economy, today announced an landmark approach to mitigating the threat posed by Spyware with the new SecureNet System for Spyware.

Spyware are programs that get installed on computers when visiting web sites or opening emails. These programs get their name because they collect information about the computer user and send it back to its creator or distributor, what is called a "phone-home". Spyware can be as innocent as an e-commerce web site keeping track of what you like so it can better serve you and as malicious as recording all your user names and passwords.

"Spyware is one of our top concerns and a major obstacle to maintaining information warfare Also called "cyberterrorism," it refers to creating havoc by disrupting the computers that manage stock exchanges, power grids, air traffic control and telecommunications. While the term often deals with attacks against a nation, it may also refer to attacks on organizations and the  superiority," said Gary Shafranski, Technical Director for the Department of Information Management at Ft. Huachuca. "Simply mistyping a web site address often results in landing on a web page that loads Spyware on your computer. In addition to the risk to information assets, there is the loss of network bandwidth and user productivity as well as the resulting barrage that inevitably comes from the phone-home."

The Intrusion SecureNet Spyware solution is a groundbreaking network monitor that blocks both the insertion of Spyware into the network as well as the phone-home of hundreds of the most malicious packages. This new capability works in conjunction with already existing host-based Spyware eradication applications that scan for and uninstall To remove hardware or software from a computer system. In order to remove a software application from a PC, an uninstall program, also called an "uninstaller," deletes all the files that were initially copied to the hard disk and restores the AUTOEXEC.BAT, CONFIG.SYS, WIN.INI and SYSTEM.  Spyware programs on individual computers. While blocking phone-home activities, the SecureNet System additionally identifies computers that have become infected from pre-SecureNet or outside use, such as laptops belonging to traveling users or telecommuters. The IT group then has a much easier time finding and cleaning these computers.

"Installations and enterprises with a large number of people who move in and out of the network have a tremendous challenge to inspect every computer system before allowing it to connect," said Ryon Packer, vice president for product management, marketing and business development for Intrusion Inc. "The SecureNet network-based approach to Spyware mitigation facilitates the identification, containment and mitigation of Spyware without overtaxing the IT and security group or putting unenforceable Adj. 1. unenforceable - not enforceable; not capable of being brought about by compulsion; "an unenforceable law"; "unenforceable reforms"
