Intransa Achieves Enterprise Operational Compatibility With VMware Infrastructure.

SAN JOSE San Jose, city, United States
San Jose (sănəzā`, săn hōzā`), city (1990 pop. 782,248), seat of Santa Clara co., W central Calif.; founded 1777, inc. 1850.
, Calif. -- Intransa, the global leader of scalable, network-centric IP storage solutions, today announced that its StorStac System has been certified with VMware Infrastructure. As part of the certification program, Intransa is listed in the SAN Compatibility Guide for VMware ESX Server VMware ESX Server is an enterprise-level virtualization product offered by VMware, Inc., a division of EMC Corporation. ESX Server is a component of VMware's larger offering, Virtual Infrastructure, which adds management and reliability services to the core server product.  under the IP SAN section. The SAN Compatibility guide is the hardware compatibility list HCL stands for hardware compatibility list. ) for VMware ESX Server. As a leader in IP SAN enterprise storage with 1GbE, 2GbE and 10GbE interfaces, VMware certification extends Intransa's commitment to providing customers with interoperable and open SAN technology.

Intransa has completed compatibility certification proving that VMware virtual machines can utilize storage capacity on Intransa's PCU PCU - PCI Configuration Utility 20 in addition to providing storage for the virtual machines hosted on VMware ESX Server hosts. Since Intransa IP SAN systems affordably scale from 4 to 1,000 terabytes of RAID-protected storage, and can leverage the company's recently released DynaStac Thin Provisioning Thin provisioning[1] is a mechanism that applies to large-scale centralized computer disk storage systems, SANs, and storage virtualization systems. Thin provisioning allows space to be easily allocated to servers, on a just-enough and just-in-time basis. , this is an important announcement for customers looking to consolidate.

"VMware is thrilled to include Intransa as part of an elite group of IP SAN storage providers qualified for enterprise operations with VMware Infrastructure," said Parag Patel, vice president, alliances, VMware. "VMware has paved the way in certifying support for enterprise systems and storage, and Intransa's StorStac PCU20 augment VMware Infrastructure for midrange and enterprise operations.

The use of Intransa's StorStac PCU20 and VMware Infrastructure enables customers to take advantage of VMware Infrastructure features such as clustering and high-availability failover. In addition, customers can migrate virtual machines from one physical machine to another without powering down or suspending the virtual machine.

While FC SAN solutions require customers to physically migrate data and storage manually when deploying, Intransa IP SAN provides a logical direct connection between the application and the storage, and changes need only be made via the 4th generation Intransa StorManager software. Existing data protection investments are also leveraged, since the Intransa IP SAN solution interoperates with existing backup scripts and procedures. Intransa solutions provide full integration with VSS/VDS ported directly from existing backup methodologies.

The Intransa IP SAN solution also has a number of advantages over FC SAN when it comes to consolidation, since SATA (Serial ATA) A serial version of the ATA (IDE) interface, which has been the de facto standard hard disk interface for desktop PCs for more than two decades. The original Parallel ATA (PATA) interface was launched in 1986.  drives use about 50 percent of the power per TB of FC drives and provide high density with a reduced footprint. "Certification allows us to provide our customers with the verified capability to combine infrastructure virtualization An umbrella term for enhancing a computer's ability to do work. Following are the ways virtualization is used.

Partitioning the computer's memory into separate and isolated "virtual machines" simulates multiple machines within one physical computer.

It enables the applications to read from and write to a single pool of storage rather then individual disks, tapes and optical devices.  from Intransa," said Jeff Whitney, vice president of marketing, Intransa. "It gives customers additional flexibility and choice as well as the opportunity to dramatically reduce costs, minimize migration downtime and increase flexibility while easing their management burden. And when the maximum storage utilization possible with our advanced DynaStac Thin Provisioning feature and the low power and high density of our drives are figured in, green IT becomes much more of a reality for our customers."

Intransa has been a member of the VMware Technology Alliance Partner program since 2006. Intransa's open IP SAN and advanced SAN technology combined with VMware Infrastructure offers customers virtualized, highly available and completely scalable server and storage environments, while allowing customers to reduce overall IT costs and implement server consolidation strategies.

Intransa's scalable IP SAN solutions are available from StorPartner Channel Partner Program members worldwide.

About Intransa

Since 2001, San Jose, California-based Intransa has been the leading innovator of IP-centric storage solutions, delivering independently scalable performance and capacity with high availability Also called "RAS" (reliability, availability, serviceability) or "fault resilient," it refers to a multiprocessing system that can quickly recover from a failure. There may be a minute or two of downtime while one system switches over to another, but processing will continue. , outstanding price/performance, and proven ease of use. A 3Com spin-off, Intransa has been shipping IP network storage solutions since 2003.
