Interpretel positioned for revenue production, president said.

TUCSON, Ariz.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 30, 1995--One year after becoming operational and five months after going public, Interpretel Inc. the global interactive communications subsidiary of Wavetech Inc. (NASDAQ:ITEL), is positioned for producing operating revenues, Terry Belsham, president, announced Wednesday.

"With completion of our management organization and recent creation of unique interactive programs for several large user groups signed under earlier announced agreements, Interpretel is now putting its system to work," Belsham said.

Interpretel is an emerging leader in interactive global communications, offering a range of features and databases accessed by telephone. The Interpretel system enables organizations and corporations to build interactive relationships with members, customers, suppliers and employees.

These services are usually made available through a group's membership cards, which are customized by Interpretel. The Interpretel system also becomes a "virtual" office for traveling business people, providing a centralized point for personal and business communication, including voice and fax messaging and language services.

Mid-Range Objective of $10 Million Monthly

"Our mid-range objective is to have approximately two million cardholders producing revenue in the area of $10 million a month," Belsham said. He said that with contracts already negotiated in Canada alone, the company will have access to over two million subscribers.

Industry averages indicate that monthly billings range from $7 to $9 for every calling card in the market, according to Casey Freymuth, president, Group IV, a Phoenix-based telecommunications consulting firm. These figures are based on usage of cards providing primarily long-distance service. Interpretel provides access to a wider variety of services, which should promote increased usage resulting in higher revenue, Belsham said.

Key Customers Going On Line

In late September, the Canadian Chamber of Commerce will launch its Chamber Communications Network, or CCN, a program designed and operated by Interpretel. Interactive communication services through the CCN will be available to 170,000 corporate chamber members across Canada.

In addition to a wide range of telecommunication, messaging and language services, the CCN will have legal resource information, worldwide English-speaking medical references, financial database access, and credit card services.

During October, Interpretel expects to complete negotiations to make its services available in Canada to approved members of a major credit card company. The initial phase will provide communications service to about 100,000 cardholders, Belsham said.

To meet demand for services in Canada, Interpretel has acquired and is installing a call-processing platform in Toronto.

In the United States, Interpretel has created a customized interactive communications network for the two major units of Privilege Players Group -- Players Club International and Privilege Card, both of which provide travel related services. The first segment of the program will distribute cards to approximately 20,000 members.

Also in the United States, Interpretel is designing a custom interactive communications network for Great Western Bank's "Great Westerner Value Club," a membership group of approximately 125,000. Membership requires bank deposits of $25,000 or more.

Interpretel core services for all customers include long-distance worldwide calling at efficient flat rates, live on-the-phone interpretation services, translation service by fax, personalized voice mail and fax mail, sequential calling, and up-to-the-hour national news, financial information and sports highlights.
