against power shopping centres, Bob Kirwan is launching an innovative Internet venture, Infocom Price Club.

As a catholic school teacher for 28 years, Kirwan delved into creating specialty publications Specialty Publications is an American publisher of gay erotic material. Their 'Men' Magazine has been the #1-selling gay male erotic magazine for over 25 years.[1] Magazines

as a sideline job in the mid-1980s before realizing the full potential of the Internet as a marketing tool for small business.

Kirwan, who is now retired and operating out of his Val Therese home in the City of Greater Sudbury's northeast end, established Infocom Canada Business Consultants Inc. last fall. He brought in his three sons, Warren, Ryan and Marty, to handle the management and marketing of the Web-based venture.

For every big box retailer attracted to Sudbury, Kirwan says dozens of small stores Noun 1. small stores - personal items conforming to regulations that are sold aboard ship or at a naval base and charged to the person's pay

"It's too costly for small business to advertise, then again it's too costly for them not to advertise," Kirwan says.

"Most don't advertise in print or radio, they just throw open the door and depend on word of mouth."

For Kirwin, that was just cause to set up this club for small businesses to advertise and offer members-only incentives for consumer-subscribers on their Web site.

So far more than 200 businesses have signed up, ranging from tattoo tattoo, the marking of the skin with punctures into which pigment is rubbed. At no charge they can post discounted items on the Web free of charge as often as every week. The posting is accessible only to card-carrying consumer subscribers.

Kirwan says about 1,000 consumer subscribers have been given a free three-month trial offer.

After that, they pay a yearly fee of $27. Subscribers have access not only to discounts, but a wide range of membership services including Internet consulting, insurance, health and dental benefits, advertising and general business services from the businesses signed with the network.

No transactions take place online. Consumer subscribers receive savings when they present their membership card at the place of business. The annual fee covers the network's operating costs operating costs nplgastos mpl operacionales  and contains a $10 portion which will be earmarked to any community group that decides to sell memberships as a fundraising project.

Kirwin says once the membership base builds up and generates some good traffic flow on the Web site, individual businesses will likely find sufficient reason to advertise on the Internet and use their consulting services Noun 1. consulting service - service provided by a professional advisor (e.g., a lawyer or doctor or CPA etc.)
