(ISC (1) (Internet Systems Consortium, Redwood City, CA www.isc.org) An organization founded by Paul Vixie, Carl Malamud and Rick Adams in 1994 and later sponsored by UUNET and other Internet companies. ) and ISOC-IL have installed a new F-root nameserver in Tel Aviv Tel Aviv (tĕl əvēv`), city (1994 pop. 355,200), W central Israel, on the Mediterranean Sea. Oficially named Tel Aviv–Jaffa, it is Israel's commercial, financial, communications, and cultural center and the core of its largest , Israel, at the Israeli Internet Exchange (IIX IIX Insurance Information Exchange IIX Indonesia Internet eXchange IIX Interactive Week Internet Index IIX Israeli Internet Exchange ). The new server was deployed in cooperation with ISOC-IL, the Israeli chapter of the Internet Society, serving all of the Israeli Internet Community. Doron Shikmoni, ISOC-IL board member overseeing the .il ccTLD and the Israel Internet Exchange, stated, "Installing a DNS (Domain Name System) A system for converting host names and domain names into IP addresses on the Internet or on local networks that use the TCP/IP protocol. For example, when a Web site address is given to the DNS either by typing a URL in a browser or behind the root server at the IIX will enhance users' Internet access experience by providing a faster and even more resilient DNS infrastructure. ISOC-IL is excited to present this service to the local community; it underlines our commitment to improving the Internet infrastructure in Israel." Joao Damas, F-root Programme Manager, stated, "We are happy to be installing a new F-root server in this region of the world. This will provide enhanced and more dependable DNS service for users of the Internet in Israel." Root servers store a series of information for identifying servers for domain names, for example '.' or '.com'. This information is necessary for further resolution of URLs, email addresses and other types of Internet transactions. In 2003 ISC deployed 17 new F-root nameserver sites around the globe enhancing Internet response times in key regions and reducing the vulnerability of the Internet Root nameserver system to malicious attacks. ISC has plans to deploy 12 new F-root nameservers around the globe in 2004. Tel Aviv is the fifth to be installed this year.
