Corporate Users Generate Four Billion E-mall Messages A Day

KVS KVS Koninklijke Vlaamse Schouwburg (Dutch: Royal Flemish Theatre, Brussels, Belgium)
KVS Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (Hindi: Indian Central Schools)
KVS Kenny Vs Spenny (TV show)
Plc, says that corporate enterprise users are generating four billion email messages a day, making manual email storage and retrieval cost-prohibitive. The figures are from research by The Radicati Group Inc., commissioned by KVS earlier this year to review the worldwide email market.

The average message size for a corporate email message is approximately 3K, and - thirty percent of corporate users are receiving attachments with their email, which range between 100-500K. The figure of four billion for worldwide corporate email traffic is expected to grow close to seven billion messages a day by 2003, amplifying the inefficiencies and inadequacies of current storage, retrieval, archiving and management systems for enterprise-wide email systems as they continue to grow exponentially.

DemoShield 6.7

InstallShield DemoShield 6.7, the latest version of the multimedia and Web-authoring software, provides new Interact-focused functionality, allowing software developers, marketers, technology trainers and technical publication authors to create multimedia and Web-based presentations.

Using DemoShield 6.7, presentation creators can "Interact-enable" multimedia content using animated CIFS (Common Internet File System) The file sharing protocol used in Windows. It evolved out of the SMB (Server Message Block) protocol in DOS, which is why the terms CIFS/SMB and SMB/CIFS are sometimes seen. The word "Internet" in the CIFS name has little relevance. , streaming media files and reduced presentation file sizes. DemoShield 6.7 helps presentation authors optimise for the Internet with new features including:

* Reduced File Sizes - The DemoShield product has been rearchitected to generate demo files 40 percent smaller in size (depending on the type of demo), saving disk space and creating faster downloads.

* Smaller DemoX Player - Because the player size has been reduced, users can view their presentations faster without lengthy download delays.

* Support for Streaming Media - Allows users to play streaming audio and video files as well as software animations from DemoShield, using the ubiquitous RealPlayer from RealNetworks and Media Player from Microsoft DemoShield supports the most common streaming file formats such as ASX ASX

Network Testing Tool

NetIQ, have announced the availability of its network-testing tool Chariot 4.0. which now supports Interact-scale testing with consoles available to test up to 10,000 connections, emulating the network traffic of hundreds of thousands of users. Testing of all sizes is simplified with Chariot 4.0's Visual Test Designer, which defines tests and sets up configurations graphically using mouse clicks and drag-and-drop techniques. The tool increases Chariot's usability and makes new users productive, enabling the set up of tests - including very large and complex ones - in minutes. With Visual Test Designer, a single graphic can be used to represent large groups of endpoint computers, eliminating the need to define test connections individually.

Chariot determines the end-to-end performance of complex, multi-protocol networks by running scripts that mimic a variety of applications, including Web, VOIP (Voice Over IP) A digital telephone service that uses the public Internet as well as private backbones instead of the traditional telephone network. Many companies, including Vonage, 8x8 and AT&T (CallVantage), typically offer calling within the country for a , videoconferencing, e-mail, ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) An integrated information system that serves all departments within an enterprise. Evolving out of the manufacturing industry, ERP implies the use of packaged software rather than proprietary software written by or for one customer.  and others it conducts tests that simulate traffic of the actual network environment, providing metrics on response time, throughput, and jitter A flicker or fluctuation in a transmission signal or display image. The term is used in several ways, but it always refers to some offset of time and space from the norm. For example, in a network transmission, jitter would be a bit arriving either ahead or behind a standard clock cycle  from the end-user's perspective.

Chariot 4.0 ships with more than 125 popular application scripts, including new scripts to emulate Microsoft's Exchange 2000, Active Directory, SQL Server, NetMeeting, Citrix, Oracle, and a variety of VOIP codes. A Script Editor is built in to customise scripts, and an optional Application Scanner is available that analyses the network flows of custom applications to automatically create test scripts.

With Chariot 4.0, buffer sizes of application scripts can be varied, providing more realistic emulation of multimedia applications, such as VOIP and streaming video that typically send data at varying packet sizes. The new version also continues to expand traceroute capabilities, which isolates performance problems by mapping and reporting the route taken by the application script, including hop-by-hop information. In addition to Win32 and Solaris already supported, traceroute testing can now be run with Linux, AIX (Advanced Interactive eXecutive) IBM's Unix-based operating system which runs on its Intellistation workstations and pSeries, p5, iSeries and i5 server families.  and HP-UX HP's version of Unix that runs on its 9000 family. It is based on SVID and incorporates features from BSD Unix along with several HP innovations.

Web Watcher to stop Internet abuse

Web Watcher, is a fit-and-forget monitoring application developed to prevent employees from abusing the Interact whilst working. Once the software is installed, the network administrators, departmental manager, or any other supervisor can choose to be notified via email immediately if an employee visits a web site that is not considered to be `business-oriented'.

Once installed on the administrator's PC, Web Watcher can be used to send itself as an email attachment to each licensed user. The attached file will contain the installation file for the monitoring software itself. As soon as the software is installed on the employee's PC, a message will be e-mailed to the administrator automatically, in order to confirm that the software has been installed correctly. Web Watcher will provide automatic notification, via email, to the administrator when a violation of the company's AUP See acceptable use policy.

AUP - acceptable use policy
occurs, whilst also flashing up a message on the user's own PC to inform him that he has been reported. Each time the browser is started (or the page changes) Web Watcher tracks the web sites visited, returning an e-mail directly to the administrator if any potential abuse is detected.
