International Rectifier breaks ground in Xi'an.


International Rectifier International Rectifier Corp. (NYSE: IRF) is a manufacturer of power semiconductors (MOSFET, IGBT, diodes and thyristors), located in El Segundo, California, USA. It has a market capitalization of 2.48 billion USD and is listed on the S&P Midcap 400.  Corp. (IR, EI Segundo, CA, www.irf.com) broke ground in October October: see month.  2003 on a new manufacturing site in Xi'an, China.

The new assembly and test facility, which will manufacture key power management components needed to support the world's growing requirement for power supplies, motion control, personal computers and other consumer electronic products, is expected to become operational in early 2005.

The new site will be located in the Chang'an Technology Park in Xi'an's High Technology Industrial Development Zone. In addition to the new manufacturing facility, the company maintains design and applications centers in Xi'an, a trading company in Shanghai Shanghai (shăng`hī`, shäng`hī`), city (1994 est. pop. 12,980,000), in, but independent of, Jiangsu prov., E China, on the Huangpu (Whangpoo) River where it flows into the Chang (Yangtze) estuary.  and has multiple sales offices throughout China. IR operates facilities in 19 other countries throughout North America North America, third largest continent (1990 est. pop. 365,000,000), c.9,400,000 sq mi (24,346,000 sq km), the northern of the two continents of the Western Hemisphere. , Europe and Asia.
