(NYSE: IRF) is a manufacturer of power semiconductors (MOSFET, IGBT, diodes and thyristors), located in El Segundo, California, USA. It has a market capitalization of 2.48 billion USD and is listed on the S&P Midcap 400. , IR(r) (NYSE NYSE See: New York Stock Exchange :IRF IRF Interferon Regulatory Factor IRF International Religious Freedom IRF Institut for Rationel Farmakoterapi (German) IRF Inherited Rights Filter (Novell) IRF Inherited Rights Filter ) today introduces a new family of standard-recovery diodes in a stud-mount DO-5 plastic-cap case. The move to a plastic-cap DO-5 package improves surge current A large electric current, many times the normal running current, which is drawn for a short duration, when power is first applied, by capacitive loads, motors, and temperature-dependent resistive loads such as incandescent lights, and resistive heating elements of nichrome, tungsten, or capability by as much as 40%. Diodes are used to convert raw alternating current (AC) mains electricity The term mains usually refers to the general purpose alternating current (AC) electrical power supply (as in “I've connected the appliance to the mains”). The term is not usually used in the United States and Canada. into direct current (DC) power, the first step in the power conversion process. Typical applications for the new diodes include battery chargers, power supplies, welding machines, alternators, generators and machine tool controls. The new diodes are drop-in replacements for many standard devices. The new 50PF, 80PF and 95PF diodes replace IR's 40HF, 70HF and 85HF series diodes, and are available in anode-to-stud and cathode-to-stud versions, as well as leaded and wire termination versions. Dr. Francesco Vallone, International Rectifier Product Marketing Manager, said, "Diodes are used in the very first part of the power conversion process. The new diodes are made with the latest IR manufacturing techniques to enhance performance while remaining very cost-effective." Data sheets for the devices are available on the IR Web site: -- 50PFxxx, 50A: http://www.irf.com/product-in fo/datasheets/data/50pf.pdf -- 80PFxxx, 80A: http://www.irf.com/product-in fo/datasheets/data/80pf.pdf -- 95PFxxx, 95A: http://www.irf.com/product-in fo/datasheets/data/95pf.pdf Availability and Pricing The new diodes are available immediately. Pricing begins at US $3 each for the 50PF40 in 1,000-unit quantities.
