Applications for the new diodes include output rectification in industrial switch mode power supplies such as high frequency and AC TIG n. 1. A game among children. See Tag.

(tungsten inert gas inert gas or noble gas, any of the elements in Group 18 of the periodic table. In order of increasing atomic number they are: helium, neon, argon, krypton, xenon, and radon. ) welding machines in the 80A to 200A DC output range, where 600V devices are recommended due to voltage spikes. Multiple diodes can be placed in parallel for higher current ratings.

"The new diodes are ideal for high-frequency welding machines. In addition, the high blocking voltage characteristics expand the applications beyond welding, to include power factor correction Power factor correction (PFC) is a technique of counteracting the undesirable effects of electric loads that create a power factor that is less than 1. Power factor correction may be applied either by an electrical power transmission utility to improve the stability and efficiency  circuits, uninterruptible power supplies, induction heaters, anti-parallel diodes in motor control and general purpose diodes in any high frequency switching circuit," said Massimo Carbone, Product Manager, Consumer and Industrial Sector Business.

The new diodes expand the IR discrete FRED Pt portfolio, and now include devices with 200V, 300V, 400V and 600V blocking voltages, and 8A to 60A average current ratings at various speeds. The new platinum devices have a 600V rating and a "soft" recovery current waveshape to reduce or eliminate the need for snubber components. Forward voltage and recovery charge characteristics are optimized to allow high current operation at switching frequency above 50kHz. Low forward voltage drop reduces conduction losses and low reverse recovery energy reduces switching losses. All features combine to reduce power dissipation, operating temperature, size and weight, while increasing power supply efficiency and reliability.

The low thermal resistance (0.63K/W max) combined with a high allowable junction temperature (175 degrees C max.) and a forward voltage of 1.42V results in a 60A current rating at 116 degrees C case temperature.

A data sheet is posted on the International Rectifier Web site. 60APU06 and 60EPU06: http://www.irf.com/product-info/datasheets/data/60epu06.pdf
