International Rectifier Introduces New Stud-Mount Standard Recovery Diodes for High-Voltage, High-Current Industrial Applications.Technology Editors EL SEGUNDO El Segundo (ĕl sēgŭn`dō), industrial city (1990 pop. 15,223), Los Angeles co., S Calif., on Santa Monica Bay; inc. 1917. Its products include navigation and computer systems, aircraft parts, office machines, telephone apparatus, and , Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 9, 2001 International Rectifier International Rectifier Corp. (NYSE: IRF) is a manufacturer of power semiconductors (MOSFET, IGBT, diodes and thyristors), located in El Segundo, California, USA. It has a market capitalization of 2.48 billion USD and is listed on the S&P Midcap 400. , IR(R) (NYSE NYSE See: New York Stock Exchange : IRF IRF Interferon Regulatory Factor IRF International Religious Freedom IRF Institut for Rationel Farmakoterapi (German) IRF Inherited Rights Filter (Novell) IRF Inherited Rights Filter ) today introduced a new series of 320A and 400A standard-recovery, stud-mount rectifiers in the DO-9 package. Rectifier rectifier, component of an electric circuit used to change alternating current to direct current. Rectifiers are made in various forms, all operating on the principle that current passes through them freely in one direction but only slightly or not at all in the diodes are used to convert raw alternating current (AC) mains electricity The term mains usually refers to the general purpose alternating current (AC) electrical power supply (as in “I've connected the appliance to the mains”). The term is not usually used in the United States and Canada. into direct current (DC) power, the first step in the power conversion process. The new devices expand IR's current line of DO-9 rectifiers with ratings from 50V to 3200V and 300A to 400A. The new devices are made for high-voltage, high-current industrial applications, such as welding, battery chargers, power supplies and light-duty traction applications. The term traction refers to motorized mo·tor·ize tr.v. mo·tor·ized, mo·tor·iz·ing, mo·tor·iz·es 1. To equip with a motor. 2. To supply with motor-driven vehicles. 3. To provide with automobiles. equipment such as golf carts and forklift trucks. Dr. Francesco Vallone, International Rectifier Product Marketing Manager, said, "Stud-mount rectifiers are the `workhorse' of the power electronics industry. IR's new rectifiers are made with the latest techniques to enhance performance while remaining cost-effective." Technical Highlights The 240U060D, 240U080D, 240U100D and 240U120D (320A) rectifiers and the 400U080D, 400U120D, 400U160D (400A) rectifiers are manufactured with a new process that combines brazed-die construction with the reliability and ruggedness of compressed assembly. The new devices have outstanding power cycling Power cycling, also known as performing a 120 reset (after the 110 Volt AC power supply), is the act of turning a piece of computer equipment off and then on again with the intent of recovering from a hung state. performance and the ability to maintain stable forward-voltage characteristics throughout component lifetime. Proper mounting techniques are recommended to ensure optimum performance of these devices, including the use of thermal compound between the heatsink and package. The new rectifiers are less sensitive to excessive mounting torque than previous devices. Reverse-polarity (anode-to-stud) versions are available, indicated by the character "R" in the part number. For example, 240U120D refers to a 240U-series, standard-recovery, normal polarity (cathode-to-stud), 1200V, diffused diode, while a 240UR120D refers to the same device with reverse polarity. Data sheets are posted on the IR Web site: http://www.irf.com/datasheets/data/240U060D.pdf http://www.irf.com/datasheets/data/400U080D.pdf Pricing and Availability The new 320A and 400A stud-mount rectifiers are available immediately. Pricing is U.S. $12.80 each for the 320A versions and U.S. $16.20 each for the 400A devices in 100-unit quantities.
