Competing devices rated at lower voltages typically use several components and bulky opto-couplers to accomplish the same switching and protection functions. The new half-bridge gate driver ICs are designed specifically for 400VAC, three-phase AC induction motor drives using a 550V bus as well as brushless DC motors both from 10 horsepower to 20 horsepower. They simplify motor control design by integrating protection circuitry and eliminating the need for customized programming of protection algorithms. Both devices are the same, but the IR22141 includes a built-in active bias circuit that reduces external filtering.
