The clinical review article is titled, "Upright, Weight-bearing, Dynamic-kinetic MRI of the Spine -- Review of the First Clinical Results." The lead author is Professor J. Randy Jinkins, M.D., a senior research fellow with FONAR and a Professor of Radiology at Drexel University Drexel University, at Philadelphia, Pa.; coeducational; founded 1891 by Anthony J. Drexel, opened 1892, chartered 1894 as Drexel Institute of Art, Science, and Industry. It was renamed Drexel Institute of Technology in 1936 and gained university status in 1970. , Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

The review article abstract states that the potential relative benefits of upright, weight-bearing, dynamic-kinetic spinal imaging over that of recumbent recumbent /re·cum·bent/ (re-kum´bent) lying down.

 MRI include the revelation of occult disease dependent on true axial loading. In conclusion, the article stated that the evidence thus far indicates that positional/dynamic-kinetic MRI (p/kMRI) may prove to be efficacious to incorporate as part of the clinical diagnosis-treatment paradigm for patients with spiral radicular radicular /ra·dic·u·lar/ (rah-dik´u-lar) of or pertaining to a root or radicle.

 and referred pain syndromes originating from spinal pathology. Overall, it was found that recumbent MRI underestimated the maximum degree of degenerative spinal pathology and missed its dynamic nature altogether -- factors that are optimally revealed with p/kMRI.
