International Paper Sells Its Lancey Paper Mill; Will Close Two Container Plants.


PURCHASE, N.Y.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 2, 1997--International Paper said today that its Aussedat Rey group has sold its subsidiary, Papeteries de Lancey De Lancey (də lăn`sē), family of political leaders, soldiers, and merchants prominent in colonial New York.

The company also announced that it will consolidate the operations of four container plants in California California (kăl'ĭfôr`nyə), most populous state in the United States, located in the Far West; bordered by Oregon (N), Nevada and, across the Colorado River, Arizona (E), Mexico (S), and the Pacific Ocean (W). . Today's announcements are part of International Paper's ongoing business improvement program, first announced in July of this year. The program is designed to increase the company's overall performance by concentrating its resources on those businesses that can sustain profitable growth in a timely fashion, attain market leadership and achieve return-on-investment targets.

Separately, the company said it had closed on the previously announced sale of its multiwall kraft packaging business to Southern Bag Corp. of Madison, Miss., and that it would decide by year-end on the future of its label business headquartered in Bowling Green Bowling Green.
