International Council of Bottled Water Associations Meets in Paris, France; Announces Adoption of Model Code, Other Actions.

WASHINGTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 15, 2004

The International Council of Bottled Water Associations (ICBWA) met in Paris, France on February 23-24, 2004. Among the announcements made at the meeting were the following:

-- The ICBWA Board of Directors recently adopted a Model Code of

quality and safety standards Safety standards are standards designed to ensure the safety of products, activities or processes, etc. They may be advisory or compulsory and are normally laid down by an advisory or regulatory body that may be either voluntary or statutory. . The Model Code provides minimum

requirements that must be followed by the members of all ICBWA

organizations. Under the ICBWA Model Code, all bottlers must

pass an annual, unannounced plant inspection by an

independent, internationally recognized third-party

organization. The inspection audits quality and testing

records, reviews all areas of plant operation from source to

finished product and checks compliance with all governmental

regulations.

-- The three standing ICBWA Committees -- Technical,

Communications and Trade Show -- met and discussed issues of

interest to the global bottled water industry. Agenda items

considered included groundwater stewardship, World Health

Organization (WHO) guidelines guidelines,
