International Conference on Women and Infectious Diseases: from Science to Action.The International Conference on Women's Health and Infectious Diseases, sponsored by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), agency of the U.S. Public Health Service since 1973, with headquarters in Atlanta; it was established in 1946 as the Communicable Disease Center. (CDC See Control Data, century date change and Back Orifice. CDC - Control Data Corporation ) and partners, will be held at the Marriott Marquis, Atlanta, Georgia, February 27-28, 2004. Intended for clinicians, scientists, women's health advocates, health educators, public health workers, academicians, and representatives from all levels of government and from community-based, nonprofit, philanthropic, and international organizations, the conference will promote prevention and control of infectious diseases among women worldwide. Featured sessions will include women and HIV/AIDS HIV/AIDS Human Immunodeficiency Virus/Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome , perinatal infectious diseases, immunizations, links between infectious and chronic diseases, and the impact of globalization. Other topics include infectious disease disparities, gender-appropriate interventions, and effective health communication. Speakers will include, Julie L. Gerberding, CDC director, who will speak about the impact of infectious diseases on women; Carol Bellamy, executive director, United Nations Children's Fund United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), an affiliated agency of the United Nations. It serves as the specialized organization for health of the Inter-American System. (PAHO), will speak about prevention of infectious diseases among women globally.
