International Coal Group Operations Receive Six Safety and Reclamation Awards.

SCOTT DEPOT, W.Va., Feb. 23 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- International Coal Group, Inc. today announced that ICG mining operations received six awards for outstanding safety and reclamation performance in 2008 at the annual West Virginia Mining Symposium in Charleston.

Five Mountaineer Guardian Awards were presented to ICG operations by the West Virginia Office of Miners' Health, Safety, and Training and the West Virginia Coal Association. The Mountaineer Guardian Awards recognize mining workplaces for their outstanding safety performance. Mining operations were nominated for Guardian Awards by state mine inspectors.
 ICG 2008 Mountaineer Guardian Award recipients included:

 -- ICG Eastern Birch River Surface Mine, Webster County, WV
 -- ICG Eastern Preparation Plant, Webster County, WV
 -- ICG Beckley Pocahontas Preparation Plant, Raleigh County, WV
 -- Wolf Run Mining Sawmill Preparation Plant, Upshur County, WV
 -- Wolf Run Mining Imperial Deep Mine, Upshur County, WV

For its outstanding reclamation practices, the ICG Eastern Birch River Surface Mine received the prestigious Woodlands Award from the West Virginia Society of American Foresters and the Appalachian Regional Reforestation Initiative. The Woodlands Award recognizes Birch River's efforts in growing native hardwood trees, developing an experimental tree growth area in cooperation with West Virginia University and providing educational activities for school children in connection with its annual Arbor Day celebration.

Over the past two years, ICG Eastern has received 10 safety awards and four awards for innovative and environmentally progressive mine reclamation practices, including the prestigious Kenes C. Bowling National Mine Reclamation Award.
