Internal mold release.

An internal mold release has been designed specifically for low VOC (volatile organic compound) gel coats. Low VOC gel coats can pose a number of processing difficulties, according to the company. These low styrene resins characteristically do not flow or wet the mold surface as well as regular gel coats, according to the company. Less styrene can also mean that these resins are slower to gel. Semi-permanent mold releases can generally tolerate the increased chemical exposure of longer gel times, but these release systems are customarily quite slick, further aggravating the poor wetting properties of the low VOC gel coat, according to the company. In this case, INT-1292VP is said to be an asset. Incorporation of this internal mold release in a low VOC gel coat can significantly improve the ability of the gel coat to wet out on molds.
