Intermet awarded additional General Motors business. (North America).


Intermet Corp., Troy, Michigan Troy is a city in Oakland County of the U.S. state of Michigan. It is a suburb of Detroit. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 80,959, the 12th largest city in Michigan by population. , has begun production of a new diecast instrument panel beam and was granted significant new instrument panel business for two General Motors luxury-class light vehicles.

The company will begin production of the magnesium magnesium (măgnē`zēəm, –zhəm), metallic chemical element; symbol Mg; at. no. 12; at. wt. 24.305; m.p. about 648.8°C;; b.p. about 1,090°C;; sp. gr. 1.738 at 20°C;; valence +2.  component, which is diecast in two pieces and later assembled, in late 2002 and 2003. They will accompany Intermet's existing instrument panel programs at the Hannibal, Missouri Hannibal is a Mississippi river city of 17,757 (2000 census), located in Marion and Ralls County, Missouri. Hannibal is located at the intersection of U.S. highways 36 and 61, approximately 110 miles north of St. Louis.  casting plant.

Intermet's magnesium instrument panel beam for General Motors was selected as a winner of the 2002 AFS A distributed file system for large, widely dispersed Unix and Windows networks from Transarc Corporation, now part of IBM. It is noted for its ease of administration and expandability and stems from Carnegie-Mellon's Andrew File System.
