Intermec 761 mobile computer certified for voice and data on Sprint Nationwide PCS network.


Intermec Technologies Corp. has announced the new Intermec 761 mobile computer has been approved for operation on the Sprint Nationwide PCS (1) (Personal Communications Services) Refers to wireless services that emerged after the U.S. government auctioned commercial licenses in 1994 and 1995. This radio spectrum in the 1.  Network. A continuation of Intermec's popular 700 series, the 761 supports both voice and data transmission via CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access) A method for transmitting simultaneous signals over a shared portion of the spectrum. The foremost application of CDMA is the digital cellular phone technology from QUALCOMM that operates in the 800 MHz band and 1.9 GHz PCS band.  2000 1xRTT technology, a recognized world standard for digital wireless transmissions. As part of Intermec's involvement with the Sprint Partner Program, the mobile computer will be available for sale through Sprint and Intermec agents.

With this certification, Sprint customers now can use an Intermec 761 handheld device to make voice calls, manage documents and even implement location-based services See mobile positioning.  such as assisted global positioning (A-GPS A-GPS Assisted Global Positioning System (used in mobile communications as a positioning system) ).

"Sprint is pleased to add the Intermec 761 to our line of rugged devices certified to operate on our wireless network," said Randy Bryson, vice president of indirect sales, Sprint Business Solutions. "The operation of this device increases the productivity levels possible through mobile solutions via the enhanced Sprint Nationwide PCS Network."

Designed to withstand daily use in harsh environments, the new Intermec 761 device provides Sprint customers with the option to buy a rugged mobile computing Using a computing device while in transit. Mobile computing implies wireless transmission, but wireless transmission does not necessarily imply mobile computing. Fixed wireless applications use satellites, radio systems and lasers to transmit between permanent objects such as buildings  platform powered by the Microsoft Windows See Windows.

"The 761 is Intermec's second device to be certified for operation on the Sprint Nationwide PCS Network," said Clark Richter, Intermec global alliance manager. "This voice certification reinforces Intermec's expertise in wide area wireless and continues our commitment to the market."

"Sierra Wireless supplied Intermec with a new, second generation CDMA embedded module, the EM3420, which allows the 761 to operate on Sprint's wireless network. Sierra Wireless acted as our integration partner, helping Intermec work with Sprint to gain voice and data certification," Richter said.
