Interleukin Genetics CEO Presents at Opening Session of EuroPerio 5 Meeting.

WALTHAM, Mass. -- Interleukin interleukin-2  (IL-2) one produced by T cells in response to antigenic or mitogenic stimulation, acting to regulate the immune response. It stimulates the proliferation of T cells and the synthesis of other T cell–derived cytokines, stimulates the growth and cytolytic function of NK cells to produce lymphokine-activated killer cells, is a growth factor for and stimulates antibody synthesis in B cells, and may promote apoptosis in antigen-activated T cells; it is used Genetics (AMEX: ILI Ili (ē`lē`) or Ile (ē`lā)) today announced that its Chief Executive Officer, Ken Kornman, DDS, PhD, presented during the Opening Session, "50 Years of Periodontology: From the Past to the Future" at the fifth triennial meeting of the European Federation of Periodontology in Madrid, Spain.

In his keynote address to over 4,000 participants, Dr. Kornman spoke about the technologies that will change the future of the practice of periodontics

"We believe that the future of medicine and dentistry is preventive care and wellness instead of treatment of active disease processes. As individuals look forward to longer lifespans, they want to be well and active and will expect predictive and preventive medicine. For these reasons, there will be more emphasis on risk factors, such as genetics, in the prediction of who is likely to develop more aggressive periodontal

A "risk analysis" is the process of arriving at a risk assessment, which is also called a "threat and risk assessment." About Periodontal Disease

Periodontal disease is a bacterially induced inflammatory disease that destroys the bone and soft tissues that support the teeth and ultimately leads to tooth loss. Individuals with periodontal disease have been shown to also be at increased risk for certain diseases involving inflammation, including pre-term child birth and cardiovascular disease.

About Interleukin

Interleukin Genetics is a biotechnology company focused on developing and commercializing personalized health products. The company uses functional genomics to help in the development of risk assessment tests, pharmacogenetic tests, nutritional and therapeutic products based on the genetic variations in people. Interleukin Genetics has commercialized genetic tests for periodontal disease risk assessment, cardiovascular risk assessment, and general nutrition assessment, and its current development programs focus on osteoporosis, and weight management. Interleukin expects that these programs will also lead to products that will personalize the selection of nutritional and therapeutic products and enable the managed care industry to improve patient care and better allocate resources.
