Intergraph ships AutoGL -- breakthrough AutoCAD Accelerator software; performance boosted as much as 208 times.

HUNTSVILLE, Ala.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 12, 1996--Intergraph Software Solutions, a worldwide leader in visualization and CAD/CAM/CAE applications, is now shipping AutoGL(TM), an OpenGL(R) based AutoCAD acceleration product that breaks through the AutoCAD Windows display performance barrier.

Using the advanced capabilities of Windows NT (Windows New Technology) A 32-bit operating system from Microsoft for Intel x86 CPUs. NT is the core technology in Windows 2000 and Windows XP (see Windows). Available in separate client and server versions, it includes built-in networking and preemptive multitasking.  or Windows 95, AutoCAD R13 users can increase design productivity and visualize designs in ways previously available only on high-end Unix workstations.

Among the major features of AutoGL are anti-aliasing, translucency, editable dynamic display lists, wireframe An umbrella term for a general outline of some structure. For example, the rough design of Web pages may be called wireframes. . Testing results show rendering performance gains of up to 20,808 percent, or 208 times that of native AutoCAD performance. AutoGL is multithreaded multithreaded - multithreading , runs under Microsoft Windows See Windows.

95 or Windows NT 3.51 or higher and supports AutoCAD R13, C3 or C4. Priced at $250, AutoGL offers high performance at an affordable price.

"With advanced features such as anti-aliasing, transparency and real-time rotation, no other driver can possibly compete with AutoGL," said Michael Todd Peterson Todd Peterson (born February 4, 1970 in Washington, D.C.) is an American football place kicker in the NFL, who most recently played with the Atlanta Falcons. His contract expired on March 11, 2006 and he was not re-signed by the Falcons. , co-author of the book "Inside AutoCAD 13 for Windows and NT".

By removing the performance barriers to running CAD software on Windows 95 or Windows NT, AutoGL enables CAD users to exploit the broad range of Windows applications A program that is written to run under Microsoft's Windows operating system. Such applications typically run under all 32-bit versions of Windows, but earlier applications might also run under the 16-bit versions (Windows 3.x) as well. See Windows. , Windows interoperability and the speed of OpenGL. The product improves AutoCAD 2D and, particularly, 3D rendering performance on any Intel/Windows system. Although no special hardware is required, the best performance gains are seen on systems with OpenGL hardware graphics boards. And AutoGL is multithreaded so Windows NT users with multi-processor systems can fully utilize their hardware.

"AutoGL is an example of Intergraph Jupiter-based technology which brings high performance, modular CAD components to the market," said Gene Grindstaff, executive manager of Intergraph Software Solution's Visualization Product Center. "Intergraph is providing state-of-the-art enabling technologies for the most popular computer-aided design computer-aided design (CAD) or computer-aided design and drafting (CADD), form of automation that helps designers prepare drawings, specifications, parts lists, and other design-related elements using special graphics- and calculations-intensive  packages today, taking full advantage of Windows and the availability of high-performance OpenGL graphics systems, such as those offered by Intergraph, ELSA, AccelGraphics, Matrox, Fujitsu, Omnicomp and others," Grindstaff said.

How AutoGL works

Intergraph AutoGL works with the Autodesk Display Interface (ADI) driver and adds a fast, efficient OpenGL-compliant display renderer. AutoGL is compatible with other ADI drivers, such as the WHIPS, Rasterex or Vibrant Soft Engine drivers, as well as the Intergraph ADI driver included with AutoGL. Once installed, the AutoGL advanced profile tool rates the performance of all the settings of a specific workstation. The performance settings are then chosen and the user can watch AutoCAD "fly."

Free Evaluation Copies

Because performance varies based on platform, input data files, configuration and preferences, users are invited to test AutoGL's capabilities for themselves. Free evaluation copies with built-in benchmarking capability is available through a visit to Intergraph's World Wide Web site at http://www.intergraph.com/visual/visual.shtml.

Priced at $250 with exceptional functionality and performance, AutoGL is within reach of virtually every AutoCAD user. AutoGL is expected to help many such users decide to move to the 32-bit Microsoft Windows platform. AutoGL is available directly from Intergraph or from Intergraph Value-Added Resellers A value-added reseller (VAR) is a company that adds some feature(s) to an existing product(s), then resells it (usually to end-users) as an integrated product or complete "turn-key" solution. .
