Intergraph introduces two renderingproducts for a range of users: ModelView Advantage, ModelView Professional.

CHICAGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 13, 1995--At the National Design and Engineering Symposium here today, Intergraph Software Solutions (ISS ISS

See Institutional Shareholder Services (ISS).
), a worldwide leader in visualization and CAD/CAM/CAE applications, introduced ModelView Advantage and ModelView Professional, two new rendering products developed to enable users to choose the product that meets their various visualization requirements. Both products will ship in April.

The ModelView Professional upgrade will be free to all ModelView 3.2 registered users and users having Intergraph maintenance for ModelView.

"These two full-function rendering products, ModelView Advantage ($995 U.S. list) and ModelView Professional ($2,500 U.S. list), provide users with a choice of outstanding rendering and animation capabilities that meet any technical business requirement," said Gene Grindstaff, executive manager of Intergraph's Visualization Product Center. "Our products have specifically designed environments that are optimized for 3D visualization of designs created in MicroStation and AutoCAD. MicroStation and AutoCAD, while developed for 2D and 3D design creation, can be cumbersome as a visualization environment."

The new ModelView products are multi-threaded and OpenGL-compliant for the Windows NT (Windows New Technology) A 32-bit operating system from Microsoft for Intel x86 CPUs. NT is the core technology in Windows 2000 and Windows XP (see Windows). Available in separate client and server versions, it includes built-in networking and preemptive multitasking.  operating system operating system (OS)

(and eventually Windows '95) for exceptional performance. Both the ModelView Advantage and ModelView Professional products read MicroStation and AutoCAD design file formats directly, or any other files from design products that can output IGDS/IDGN, .dxf or .dwg formats, such as Intergraph's EMS (Engineering Modeling System).

Features and Benefits

A complete product with the functionality needed by cost conscious or casual users, ModelView Advantage contains a subset of features found in ModelView Professional. Standard features of both products include:

-- Multi-threading

Process intensive functions including ViewFinder The preview window on a camera that is used to frame, focus and take the picture. On analog cameras, the viewfinder is an eye-sized window that must be pressed against the face. Point-and-shoot digital cameras use small LCD screens that are viewed several inches from the eyes.  and Raytrace and Quicktrace renderers take advantage of multiple processors in a single desktop by splitting the rendering workload among the processors, which reduces processing time significantly.

-- OpenGL-based Environment

The ModelView's ViewFinder produces renderings more quickly. Production becomes significantly faster when you complement the rendering products with OpenGL hardware acceleration In computing, hardware acceleration is the use of hardware to perform some function faster than is possible in software running on the normal (general purpose) CPU. Examples of hardware acceleration include blitting acceleration functionality in graphics processing units (GPUs) and .

-- PIXIE pixie, in English folklore, spirit or fairy. The pixie is commonly represented as a mischievous imp who delights in flustering young maidens and leading travelers astray.

The exclusive interactive rendering component, PIXIE, allows users to change surface textures, colors and patterns in a rendered image, while maintaining the true raytraced qualities of reflection, refraction refraction, in physics, deflection of a wave on passing obliquely from one transparent medium into a second medium in which its speed is different, as the passage of a light ray from air into glass. , translucency and transparency within a fraction of the original processing time.

-- MicroStation Development Language (MDL MDL - (Originally "Muddle"). C. Reeve, Carl Hewitt and Gerald Sussman, Dynamic Modeling Group, MIT ca. 1971. Intended as a successor to Lisp, and a possible base for Planner-70. Basically LISP 1.5 with data types and arrays. ) Compatibility

from within the MicroStation environment more convenient. Users can raytrace the entire view or a part of one view for a quick preview of their ultimate output or the entire view. The batch mode allows processing at optimal times without slowing interactive MicroStation operations. MicroStation is a general purpose 2D/3D drafting and design application developed by Bentley Systems Bentley Systems, Incorporated, provides software for the "Design, construction and operation of the world's infrastructure". The company’s software serves the building, plant, civil, and geospatial vertical markets in the areas of architecture, engineering, construction (AEC)  Inc.

-- Photomatching

Unequaled photomatching gives the user more accurate control for aligning computer-rendered 3D models with photographs. When the model is rendered with a raster backdrop, the raster image is rendered as part of the 3D model, which blends the backdrops and rendered models for softer edges.

-- Patterning

Real-world patterning allows more control over the scale of a pattern mapped to a surface and a more realistic appearance and intricate detail.

ModelView Professional -- Exclusive Features

, ModelView Professional's advanced features include NetVideo Director, a network-based image and animation processing capability designed for scheduling the distribution of the rendering workload across stations during non-peak hours.

Digital Video Producer, developed by Asymetrix Corporation and included with ModelView Professional, provides sophisticated video editing See nonlinear video editing and video editor.  capabilities for the skilled visualization expert.

These essential multimedia/video creation and editing tools can be used to edit animation sequences, combine animation with live video, transition between scenes and add music, voice-overs, titles and more. When editing is complete, users can write output files to be used in multimedia presentations or recorded to CD or tape.

Fast raster editing with Escher, a tool with an easy-to-use Windows interface, allows you to quickly change and enhance the appearance of your image without re-rendering. Brighten areas that are too dark, or change the color of specific elements within the raster image. Use the merge feature to redefine an image's background. You can also perform text annotation 1. (programming, compiler) annotation - Extra information associated with a particular point in a document or program. Annotations may be added either by a compiler or by the programmer.  or integrate parts of other images with features such as cloning and cut-and-paste.

Advanced image utilities enable users to convert raster file formats, scale raster images, filter images and execute stereo and chrome-key merges for easy image manipulation.

Close Integration with MicroStation 5.0

Both ModelView Professional and ModelView Advantage are extensions to MicroStation's design and rendering functionality and provide the user with a complete visualization environment. Both are highly integrated with the MicroStation environment, recognizing material and light source assignments made in MicroStation and including an MDL version of our raytracer for use within MicroStation in either an interactive or batch mode.
