Intergraph Utilities Awarded Multimillion Dollar Contract to Provide GIS Technology For Joint Solutions Project.

HUNTSVILLE, Ala.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 15, 1999--

Geospatial Resource Management Platform to Connect

Three Electric Cooperatives

In a multimillion dollar deal, Intergraph Utilities has been selected with Intellisource-Mid-Atlantic to standardize and integrate GIS across three electric cooperatives in the greater Washington, D.C. area. In an effort to reduce costs and integrate operational processes, Intergraph Utilities will provide its AM/FM/GIS software, FRAMME(TM), as well as an electric application template to enable rapid implementation. Intellisource will provide the overall project management and outsourcing services. The project objective is to implement a Geospatial Resource Management system that integrates the customer information system (CIS), work management system (WMS) and GIS.

Intellisource, a national services integrator specializing in outsourcing solutions, is the prime contractor to Northern Virginia Electric Cooperative (NOVEC), Rappahannock Electric Cooperative (REC) and Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative (SMECO) for various support and implementation services. The three cooperatives are relying on Intellisource to migrate them from a mainframe IT system to Intergraph Utilities' Geospatial Resource Management client-server environment.

"Using Intergraph Utilities' electric industry application template provides a fast-track, production-ready system in far less time than standard AM/FM/GIS implementations," said Kevin Hitt, Intergraph vice president of electric utilities.

Ron Kistler, GIS project manager of Intellisource said, "Partnering with Intergraph will help to expedite a common information system within the three coops that will serve as an industry model, and one that is easily transferable to other electric cooperatives."

Intellisource, headquartered in Fairfield, Conn., with operational hubs in Atlanta and Houston, is a Safeguard Scientifics Inc. (NYSE:SFE) partnership company. NOVEC is headquartered in Manassas, Va., and provides electricity to approximately 90,000 customers in northern Virginia. REC is headquartered in Fredericksburg, Va., providing electricity to approximately 75,000 customers in northeastern Virginia. SMECO is headquartered in Hughesville, Md., providing electricity to approximately 115,000 customers in southern Maryland.
