The result of the company's commitment to build and maintain industry-specific, commercial off-the-shelf Commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) is a term for software or hardware, generally technology or computer products, that are ready-made and available for sale, lease, or license to the general public.  (COTS) solutions, G/Technology delivers an integrated geofacilities management system that optimizes operational efficiency and reduces the cost of designing, operating and maintaining a service delivery network of utilities and communications companies.

solutions that can help them optimize and streamline daily operations while reducing costs," said Dr. Ignacio Guerrero, Executive Vice President Product Development, Intergraph Mapping and Geospatial Solutions. "G/Technology, version 9.2, gives users and administrators new and improved functionality to increase productivity in project implementations, from startup to operations."

To date, more than 100 companies around the world have embraced Intergraph's G/Technology and are in various stages of implementation. These companies along with the worldwide utilities and communications market help drive the enhancements included in this and each of G/Technology's releases.

New functionality complements open approach

New and improved features in version 9.2 provide end users and system administration with significant productivity gains. Key areas of enhanced functionality include:

--Advanced metadata tools shorten project deployment - Version 9.2 speeds the process of upgrading Intergraph's flagship FRAMME AM/FM/GIS to G/Technology. New in version 9.2 is the G/Technology Project Tool (GPT GPT glutamic-pyruvic transaminase; see alanine transaminase.

--Open APIs enable customization - New Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) support site-specific requirements through custom interfaces and customer-specific business rules as an adjunct to the solution's configurability. The enhanced APIs introduce Microsoft's Visual Basic for Applications (VBA (Visual Basic for Applications) A subset of Visual Basic that provides a common language for customizing Microsoft applications. VBA supports COM, which allows a VBA script to invoke internal functions within Excel, Word and other COM-based programs or to make use of ) into the G/Technology framework. This increases G/Technology's extensibility, providing an integrated development and debugging environment and further supporting the integration of custom software.

--Access control for better user management - With this release, system administration capabilities for user management have been extended to further protect the integrity of the corporate geofacilities database. Access control is now managed through the definition of roles in the Oracle database and the assignment of roles to specific users or user groups. This provides the means to configure the system so that specific functionality is presented to a specific set of users at the application level.

--Optimized user interface improves usability - An updated user interface includes support for slide-out and roll-up dockable controls that maximize screen use and display fidelity and give users access to all the data and tools needed to support complex workflows.

--Numerous plotting enhancements improve plot composition - Plotting enhancements introduce support for dynamic redline red·line

G/Technology goes beyond traditional AM/FM/GIS applications to support a full Geospatial Resource Management (GRM) environment with an open data concept that enables efficient integration among key engineering, operational and customer-related corporate systems. Geometry, attributes and business rules are housed in Oracle, enabling G/Technology solutions to easily share information with other corporate applications and incorporate data changes initiated by them. Because the solution is truly open, there is no need for proprietary programming thus avoiding the expense of specially trained personnel. The technology's precise interaction with Oracle and its ability to minimize network traffic provide companies with a highly scalable solution that dramatically reduces database processing and wait times in multi-user environments.

Intergraph offers G-Technology-based industryware that is established on the industries' best practices and is key enabling technology for Geospatial Resource Management. These packages are available for electric, communications, gas, pipeline, water/wastewater, and multi-utility companies.
