The division announced and demonstrated INtools 5.3 at International Process & Power 2002, where some 400 Intergraph customers from more than 50 countries are participating in a variety of events. The conference continues here through Thursday.

New Dimensional Data for Piping Speeds Downstream Instrument Modeling

A new module, Dimensional Data for Piping (DDP (Distributed Data Processing) See distributed processing.

DDP - Distributed Data Processing
), solves a critical downstream problem in detail design of in-line instruments--the lack of accurate dimensions. Precise dimensions are crucial in offshore, modular or skid-mount designs where flange-to-flange measurements are absolute requirements and where installation and maintenance space is at a premium. The DDP module imports dimensions from instrument vendors into INtools and creates cut sheets. Data from INtools then drives EDEN Eden, in the Bible

The DDP module integrates upstream instrument engineering tasks with detail design by providing accurate physical dimensions. For the instrument engineer, the DDP module also manages as-built data including dimensions useful in operations and upgrades. For the piping designer, the INtools dimensional data and DDP module functions help reduce design hours by providing a library of more than 100 EDEN models of common instruments and eliminating iterative it·er·a·tive

New Module Answers Telecom Needs

The new Telecommunication module provides features for designing and laying out plant telecommunications including telephones, intercoms and PA systems. A complete feature set includes wiring, paneling, hookup hookup,

Fieldbus Support Expands

Building on its history beginning in 2000 as the first commercial instrumentation package to support fieldbus topologies, INtools 5.3 includes additional fieldbus features added at the request of major plant owners and engineering firms. New rules enforce design parameters for spur length, multiple vendor equipment on the same bus and other limits. The validation function is expanded to include verification against segment wide parameters, terminators, voltage drop Noun 1. voltage drop - a decrease in voltage along a conductor through which current is flowing

and cable length. The validation report flags areas which deviate from fieldbus design rules, allowing engineers to correct problems early, plan better and pre-optimize fieldbus installations. The new features help engineers work more effectively within the fieldbus design constraints which differ from those of traditional systems due to the increased demands of planning, validating, managing and documenting fieldbus projects.

Enhanced SmartLoop Improves Loop Graphics

New Enhanced SmartLoop functions include wiring drawing options that provide a cleaner graphical representation that avoids overlaps of wires, labels and other symbols. Improved page layout :For the Wikipedia policy about articles layout, see Wikipedia:Guide to layout. Page layout is the part of graphic design that deals in the arrangement and style treatment of elements (content) on a page.  and terminal strip position options minimize the crossing of wire symbols and panel locations. The result is a more straightforward, instantly understandable loop diagram with a high degree of value in operations and maintenance. Enhanced SmartLoop also supports annotations and macros for all loop drawings. A new report for cable layout is now executable from Enhanced SmartLoop. The data-centric Enhanced SmartLoop provides on-the-fly generation of editable, non-CAD loop views. The underlying data is updated when users make changes to the loop.

As-built/Project Enables Concurrent Engineering

Improvements to the As-built/Project feature now support concurrent engineering on multiple projects or areas within the plant. Instead of working on one project or area at a time, multiple projects can remain open and are available for work. Engineers can also import and export projects to promote re-use of information and reduce data re-entry RE-ENTRY, estates. The resuming or retaking possession of land which the party lately had.

. In addition to enabling concurrent engineering, the enhancements increase flexibility and improve productivity. Introduced in version 5.1, As-built/Project features enable users to make system additions and changes for projects without affecting the documented, as-built instrument database for the operating plant. Cable Drum and Routing Optimizes Design, Cabling Tasks

Expanded cable drum and length estimation features in the Wiring module estimate lengths to reduce waste and optimize drum procurement. Engineers enter cable type and length between components, and INtools estimates the total length of cable types in the project or plant area. Cable routing features enable users to create a flexible data set documenting plant cabling, starting at the trunk level with wiring tray assignments. Other Improvements Drive Work Process Efficiency

Additional improvements to the 5.3 version include the Process Data Editor and batch calculation capability. For the engineering phase, INtools generates a pre-formatted spreadsheet which the instrumentation engineer sends by Email to the process engineer. The process engineer completes the form, returns it and INtools merges the process-specific information into the design database for engineering. The feature improves accuracy, eliminates rekeying process data and saves money since the process engineer does not need a copy of INtools. Enhancements to the Calculation module include batch execution capability. Users can select a group of components and kick off batch processes to calculate the sizing of control and relief valves and thermowells.
