HUNTSVILLE, Ala.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 2, 2003

The Process, Power & Offshore division of Intergraph Corporation (NASDAQ NASDAQ

:INGR) today announced the 6.0 version of INtools(R) lifecycle instrument engineering and design software. Scheduled for availability this month, INtools 6.0 includes improved integration capabilities, tools to evaluate multiple process cases and a number of productivity enhancements. Integration with SmartPlant(R) Electrical, The Engineering Framework and Emerson Delta V helps engineers streamline workflows, improve accuracy and increase quality. Process case evaluation assists engineers in assessing design efficiencies while other new features improve usability. The 6.0 version (ppo.intergraph.com/ppo/intools) further expands support for plant operation and maintenance as well as design engineering tasks.

Integrates with SmartPlant Electrical

To further synchronize See synchronization.  engineering between two closely-related workflows and eliminate re-keying and data checking, INtools 6.0 integrates with Intergraph SmartPlant Electrical 2.0. Integration includes exchange of PLC or other control signal data and definition of associated wiring connections in INtools. INtools also exports load data for instruments and cabinets requiring power and the propagated SmartPlant Electrical load If an electric circuit has a well-defined output terminal, the circuit connected to this terminal (or its input impedance) is the load. (The term 'load' may also refer to the power consumed by a circuit; that topic is not discussed here.  information is transferred back to INtools with the correct power distribution data for display in loop diagrams. SmartPlant Electrical 2.0 was announced today in a separate press release.

Supports The Engineering Framework

INtools 6.0 supports The Engineering Framework (TEF TEF Tracheoesophageal fistula, see there ), the enterprise-wide engineering integration architecture. TEF integration significantly improves interdisciplinary communication, facilitates concurrent engineering and eliminates re-keying data thereby increasing accuracy and quality while shortening schedules. The TEF-enabled INtools communicates with both up and downstream engineering tasks across SmartPlant applications. TEF directs the flow and exchange of data as it moves among engineering and design applications and provides information and change management as well as version control, global data access and reuse.

Through TEF, INtools publishes information to SmartPlant applications which retrieve and use that data in related workflows. For example, an INtools user can retrieve loop data such as control valve A device that modulates the flow of fluid in a conduit in response to a signal from a process measurement control system.  size and attributes from SmartPlant P&ID and use it to engineer wiring, I/O cards, terminal blocks, sensors and other required components. The INtools engineering is then published through TEF and is available for other applications such as SmartPlant 3D. Authorized users receive automatic notification and to-do lists of changes, reviews and other tasks.

Integration enhancements include a link to Emerson Delta V, a leading distributed control system A distributed control system (DCS) refers to a control system usually of a manufacturing system, process or any kind of dynamic system, in which the controller elements are not central in location (like the brain) but are distributed throughout the system with each component  (DCS). INtools users can download Delta V configuration data on the I/O card level directly from Emerson via the Web. Engineers use the information to populate DCS specifications and assign tags, create loops and wiring connections in INtools and perform related control system design or maintenance tasks. Integration eliminates re-keying data and helps ensure accuracy since Emerson information is regularly updated online.

Evaluate Multiple Process Cases

INtools features a multiple process data case tool to help plant engineers evaluate alternative process configurations. An engineer can select a set of specifications and apply various process cases to assess impact on plant configuration. Especially helpful in projects to increase operational efficiency and production, the feature assists engineers in determining efficiencies along with associated savings or costs.

Other Improvements Boost Productivity

The new version also includes a number of improvements designed to provide more information, greater ease of use and more flexible access. Improvements to the Enhanced SmartLoop feature includes expanded graphical and report capabilities. Users can save symbol and connector positions, run custom macros, move symbols between pages and create graphics that represent instruments. Reports now include those for telecom and fieldbus segments for more complete information. The Process module supports online process analyzer tags, specifications, signals and equipment attributes of gas chromatographs, pH meters, viscometers and other instruments crucial to monitoring and control. The addition provides further and more useful system detail for use in design and operations. Graphical user interface graphical user interface (GUI)
