Expanded Integration with INtools

SmartPlant Electrical 2.0 includes improved integration with Intergraph INtools 6.0 instrumentation engineering software. The integration further synchronizes the engineering between two closely-related workflows and eliminates re-keying and verifying data. From INtools, SmartPlant Electrical retrieves data on instruments and cabinets requiring power. In SmartPlant Electrical, engineers identify the components as loads and associate the loads with feeders. The components are included in load summaries and are displayed in the Electrical Engineer window as well as in single line diagrams. The instrument load information is exported to INtools with the correct power distribution data displayed in loop diagrams. Integration also includes to-do lists for guiding project tasks and supports selective data retrieval for flexibility and time savings. INtools 6.0 was announced today in a separate press release.

Rule Manager Enforces Engineering Consistency

SmartPlant Electrical features a Rule Manager to define engineering rules to automatically enforce best practices as well as industry, company and project electrical engineering standards. Rules enable automatic validation which speeds engineering decisions and improves design integrity and quality. SmartPlant Electrical applies the rules to engineering tasks as they are executed. For example, if an engineer connects a low voltage Low voltage is an electrical engineering term that broadly identifies safety considerations of an electricity supply system based on the voltage used. While different definitions exist for the exact voltage range covered by "low voltage", the most commonly used ones include "mains  single-phase motor to a high-voltage three phase bus, a rule would alert the user and prevent the connection until the inconsistency is resolved. Based on the type of inconsistency, SmartPlant Electrical logs the error, alerts and logs or disallows the operation. Administrators define the rules before the project begins and rules can be reused or modified in subsequent projects.

Enabling Workgroup Engineering

SmartPlant Electrical features Plant Group Access rights which help enable global, multi-office, concurrent engineering. An administrator defines users, groups and access permissions for specific plant units, areas or systems. Engineers can also create templates for multi-sheet typical schematics, place them in the project and automatically generate the diagrams.

Change management features allow users to archive and compare schematics and single line diagrams. SmartPlant Electrical flags differences between design versions and generates a corresponding report. The audit trail helps support engineering decisions in both plant operation and design engineering.
