InterVideo, Inc. ("IVI IVI Intelligent Vehicle Initiative

") today announced that it would be demonstrating at fall Comdex real-time software encoder technology that will drive its new digital VCR, WinDVR.

InterVideo's digital video recorder See DVR.  will allow PC users to capture and store video and audio in highly compressed MPEG (Moving Pictures Experts Group) An ISO/ITU standard for compressing digital video. Pronounced "em-peg," it is the universal standard for digital terrestrial, cable and satellite TV, DVDs and digital video recorders (DVRs). 2 files. Users will also be able to begin watching the content being recorded while WinDVR continues capturing, a phenomena known as time-shifting.

"Digital VCR's will be the centerpiece of PC convergence technologies," stated Joe Monastiero, VP of Sales and Marketing for InterVideo. "WinDVR will open a whole new world for consumers, allowing them for the first time to affordably record ultra-high quality video and audio on their PCs. Additionally, the concept of 'pause TV' will revolutionize the way people watch television when connected to a PC."

WinDVR will provide functionality on the PC similar to that introduced earlier this year by Replay TV and TiVo in the consumer space. Users will be able to program WinDVR to capture their favorite TV programs to their hard disks for later viewing. Or they can watch programs while they are being recorded, pausing whenever desired and skipping over "undesirable" content.

WinDVR will include playback capabilities made popular by InterVideo's successful DVD DVD: see digital versatile disc.

software player, WinDVD. WinDVD has won widespread acclaim for its high quality video and audio decoders. WinDVR will work with any current generation video capture board, allowing television program recording and time-shifting with the presence of a TV tuner module.

The encoder technology included in WinDVR will offer users the ability to capture various resolutions, frame rates and formats, up to 720x480 pixels and 30 frames per second. Users will be able to capture and save video and audio from any live source or transcode (1) To convert from one format to another.
