InterVideo Selects ATVEF Technology from Intel for WinDTV Digital TV Software Offering Will Permit Consumers to Enjoy High Definition Interactive TV on Their PCs.

InterVideo, Inc., the leading developer of PC video and audio software, today announced that it has partnered with Intel to bring interactive high definition television viewing to consumers. InterVideo will combine and enhance software developed by Intel that supports the ATVEF standard with its own HDTV playback software, WinDTV(TM).

ATVEF, which stands for the Advanced Television Enhancement Forum, has defined an interactive standard that allows broadcasters to embed interactive data into their programming. WinDTV with ATVEF support will allow PC users to experience high definition broadcast television -- including interactive content -- on their PCs with no additional hardware besides a low cost PCI Digital TV receiver card.

Using the ATVEF specifications, broadcasters can add interactive content and data to a broadcast video stream. Examples of ATVEF enhancements include allowing TV viewers sitting at their computers to see detailed sports statistics during a baseball game, participate in game shows, like the popular Who Wants To Be A Millionaire, study remotely and interactively, and even purchase items during commercials.

WinDTV provides software decoding of high definition MPEG2 and AC-3 streams, synchronizes them for delivery to the viewer along with enhanced television content (ATVEF) when available. The software decodes all 18 ATSC formats, and delivers up to 1920x1080 video resolution and 19Mbps of data.
