InterVideo InstantON Technology Integrated with Sony VAIO VGN-AS53B and AS53S Notebooks; First Sony VAIO notebook to Include Instant TV Viewing and Digital Video Recording with DVD and Audio CD Playback.


FREMONT, Calif. -- InterVideo(R), Inc. (Nasdaq:IVII) a leading provider of software solutions to tier-one consumer electronics and PC manufacturers, announced today that its InterVideo InstantON(TM) technology is now shipping with the Sony Type A series, VGN-AS53B and VGN-AS53S VAIO (Video Audio Integrated Operation) Sony's trade name for its desktop and laptop PCs. In mid-1998, Sony introduced its 505G series of subnotebooks that were the first in ultra-thin Pentium portables.  notebooks in Japan.

The type A series from the new Sony VAIO notebooks offers consumers a full digital media center with features that are unique to its product line. The first of their class, the Sony VAIO AS53B/AS53S notebooks have integrated a complete entertainment package with InterVideo InstantON. Branded as "Instant Mode," these compact notebooks pack an array of consumer electronic features. By integrating InstantON with the notebooks, consumers can benefit from instant access of TV, DVD DVD: see digital versatile disc.

By utilizing InterVideo InstantON as a dual-boot configuration, users can enjoy both CE entertainment features and PC-based computing tasks all in one machine. New to its product line, the Sony VAIO notebooks are equipped with built in TV Tuner cards that allow users to directly record their favorite TV programs to a DVD disc while in "Instant Mode." The Sony VAIO AS53B/AS53S offers users with instant access to an extensive digital entertainment package from viewing and recording TV programs, watching DVD movies or even listening to audio CDs with superior playback clarity. Playback is enhanced with advanced navigation technology that allows users to skip DVD chapters, fast forward/backward, pause.

Also, the notebooks include instant AV mode that allows audio CD, DVD, TV and direct recording TV programs onto DVD-RW (DVD-Read Write) A rewritable (re-recordable) DVD disc for both movies and data from the DVD Forum. Also called "DVD Dash RW" and "DVD Minus RW," DVD-RW uses phase change recording. The media hold 4.7GB per side and can be rewritten 1,000 times.  or DVD-RAM A rewritable DVD disc endorsed by the DVD Forum. Using phase change technology, DVD-RAMs are like removable hard disks, and the media can be rewritten 100,000 times compared to 1,000 times for DVD-RW and DVD+RW. The first DVD-RAM drives with a capacity of 2.6GB (single sided) or 5.  drives. In addition, the notebooks support three dimensional Y/C Y/C Luminance/Chrominance  separated circuit which provides clear image and enhanced TV Enhanced TV (ETV) is one example of interactive TV. It is used in particular in reference to Two-Screen Solutions TV + PC services. Generally users of these ETV services have their TV and computer in the same room, and navigate their web browser to a particular program-specific Web  quality for a superior viewing experience.

InterVideo InstantON is currently available from InterVideo only to OEMs for evaluation and integration and is not sold as stand-alone retail software. The modular nature of the product enables OEMs and middleware developers to create customized solutions and to incorporate only the features that are required for a particular device. InstantON, includes the full stack of OS, BIOS, drivers, modules (engines), applications, user interface and remote control optimizations.
