Inter-generational daycare to open in LI.

In a transaction arranged by Wilrock National of Long Island, Serendipity's Discovery World, the nation's first intergenerational daycare center established in an industrial park, has leased a 10,000-square-foot freestanding building at 73 Mall Drive in Hauppauge Industrial Park. The complex in the township of Smithtown is the largest industrial park in New York State and the second largest in the United States.

Madelyn Leibowitz, executive director of Wilrock National of Long Island, negotiated the long-term leasing transaction, which has an aggregate rental valued in excess of $1 million.

The creation of Serendipity's Discovery World was initiated by the Hauppauge Industrial Association (HIA), and is a joint effort between business and government. Tenants of Hauppauge Industrial Park that join the daycare center will receive corporate discounts for employees, and grants were provided by both the state and federal government.

Serendipity's Discovery World will provide daycare for approximately 100 children, ranging in age from eight weeks to five years, and more than 30 "ambulatory" senior citizens over the age of 60. The service is open to the general community and tenants of Hauppauge Industrial Park, which include Standard MiCrosystems North Atlantic Industries, ADDS, Anorad, Audiovox, Avnet and Graham-Field. Parker Hannifin Corporation/Gull is the daycare center's first corporate member.

Discovery World is headed by cousins Neil and Michael Pollack, whose company has run a daycare center and day camp in Yaphank, New York, for more than two decades. The company was selected through an extensive bidding and screening process.

According to Leibowitz, the daycare facility is currently undergoing extensive renovations to construct classrooms, kitchen and dining facilities, bathrooms, and install special lighting and air conditioning to meet New York State's stringent daycare requirements. The facility will be open sometime this fall.
