Intelsat Enables Vodacom to Grow in Africa.

SANDTON, South Africa--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 18, 2002

Intelsat South Africa South Africa, Afrikaans Suid-Afrika, officially Republic of South Africa, republic (2005 est. pop. 44,344,000), 471,442 sq mi (1,221,037 sq km), S Africa.  (Pty) Ltd. today announced that it has signed a five-year contract with Vodacom International, a subsidiary of the Vodacom Group, to provide satellite capacity to enable Vodacom's expansion of mobile telecommunications services In telecommunication, the term telecommunications service has the following meanings:

1. Any service provided by a telecommunication provider.

2.
 to the Democratic Republic of Congo, Mozambique and Tanzania.

Intelsat is Intelsat I (nicknamed Early Bird for the proverb "The early bird catches the worm") was the first (commercial) communications satellite to be placed in geosynchronous orbit, on April 6, 1965.  providing capacity on its 904 satellite at 60 Degrees E to carry the telecommunications traffic generated to and from more than 20 base stations and switching centers A switching center is a node in a telecommunications Circuit switching network which is connected to either another switching center and/or to end user devices. Switching centers are aware of other centers and possible routes between them such that on demand a center can establish  around and inside the African countries, as well as into the public switched network.
